It looks like Kanye West’s school Donda Academy is one step closer to becoming a reality, as the rapper has allegedly found the site for his new tuition-free school. West bought 3.7 acres of land in California located between Moorpark and Simi Valley.
According to documents, Donda Academy Inc. filed a permit request with the Building and Safety division in Ventura County. The paperwork allegedly asked for a chance of occupancy from Simi Valley Stoneridge Preparatory, the school that used to be there but closed close to 10 years ago.
Space For Opportunity
The space is 5,728-square-foot and features a basketball court and a field for sports. It also offers a kitchen, classroom, labs, offices, storage, and bathroom. The school will host sixty students, and the free tuition private school is obviously meant to honor his mother Dr. Donda West.
The professor passed away in 2007 after complications from elective surgery. West was a woman who valued education, so a school dedicated in her name is fitting. The academy’s mission statement is outlined on its website.
“Finding the intersection between faith and the innovation of the future, Donda Academy is focused on equipping students with an education that will last in the ever-changing world.” The website also offers an admission page to sign your child up.
‘Help Students Prepare’
The mission statement also claims that the academy will prepare the next generation to be innovative and critical thinkers. “Donda academy mission using an ethic of integrity and care, Donda academy prepares students to become the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators by providing them with a world-class education that includes a rigorous core curriculum, and an emphasis on sustainability, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.”
One has to wonder if West’s own children he shares with Kim Kardashian will be attending the academy as well. North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3. Psalm, 1, are still pretty young but what is the point in having your own school if your kids can’t go, right?
DONDA
West’s tenth studio album titled DONDA was also dedicated to his mother who essentially raised him as a single mother with the help of her mom. Unfortunately, the album is making headlines for not-so-positive reasons.
First, West ticked fans off by pushing back the release of the album but letting hypemen like Justin Laboy vouch for it via social media. Then he had three listening parties for some reason and finally, when the album was released it revealed some intimate details about his marriage with Kardashian.
The Rapper seemingly admits to cheating on the reality star on the track “Hurricane” and he also talks about momager Kris Jenner being too in their business.
Donda Academy
West has been exploring Christianity and applying it to his life where he sees fit. A lot of comes out in his music with most of his albums referencing God in some way or another. It will also play a role in Donda Academy according to the mission statement.
This is just the latest move the rapper had made to honor his mom. West has also expressed interest in scholarships, merchandise, and more to continue to honor Donda.
