Kim Zolciak-Biermann Recalls Terrifying Moment She Suffered A Stroke

Kim Zolciak-Biermann looks back on the moment she went into an unexpected stroke six years ago on Instagram.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star took to the social media site to share the details of that scary day.

"6 yrs ago today I had a stroke. i’ll never forget how I felt. I think about it almost daily still to this day. I take blood thinner daily & probably always will! I have no physical limitations but at times I can’t find the “right” word, or I completely lose my train of thought. Thank God my hubby finishes my sentences," Kim wrote.

She also noted that there were "a couple signs" before the stroke that she "didn’t pay attention to."

Adding that, she knew "something was wrong," but she thought it was normal.

"I woke up 9/21/2015 (I just landed in LA the night before) & my head was pounding. Like a terrible terrible migraine. I suffered from migraines regularly so I just assumed that’s what it was BUT it was the WORST HEADACHE I have ever had."

The mother of six continued, "I popped excedrin migraine like usual & hopped in the car to head to DWTS studio for rehearsal. Our driver got lost & took us up into the Hollywood Hills! I was so car sick (typical for me) by the time I arrived to the studio I was feeling like crap! Horrible migraine & car sick as hell."

Kim went on with her performance on Dancing with the Stars that night despite the excruciating headache she was experiencing.

"I did my first dance & remember looking at my hairdresser @nikipressley & saying, 'Niki I’m so car sick' she replied, 'Kim its been 2hrs since you got out of the car' it was wayyyy more than car sickness now looking back .... it was almost like I was on a boat everything was rocking back & forth," the TV personality recalled.

As if one pill wasn't enough, Kim took "more excedrin migraine" as she still had one more segment to do.

"I performed both my dances that night & we did great! We immediately left & hopped on the red eye to get home to my babies. Our flight landed 30 min early & I ALWAYS walk but instead I took the tram. I was just exhausted. I drove Brielle & I home," Kim shared.

However, when they got home, the worst thing happened.

"I pulled in the driveway opened the car door & bent down to hug KJ when it happened.....my fingers went numb (I thought to myself, OMG Kim get over to the car and hold on to something) I felt like I was going to collapse & there was no way I was going to do that in front of my kids," Kim revealed of her stroke. "I was holding on to the car & remember saying to @sladeosborne 'I NEED HELP' but when I went to speak I couldn't! He realized something was wrong & took me to sit down."

Slade Osborne, who was her daughter Brielle's boyfriend at the time, called for help.

"He called Kroy off the field (falcons practice) & I remember Kroy’s exact words, 'GET KIM TO THE HOSPITAL AS FAST AS YOU CAN, EVERY MINUTE COUNTS' & it does," she recalled. "I was admitted for a few days. They also found a hole in my heart. Had the plane not been early, Has I not taken the tram & also took 6 excedrin migraine (not suppose to in a 24hr period) but it has aspirin in it so I firmly believe it saved my life... but had these factors not happened who knows what could have been," Kim added.

She then ended her story by giving a shoutout to her family and friends, "❤️ so thankful for my kids, my hubby @kroybiermann and @tonydovolani you guys rock!! I loved doing DWTS one of the best decisions I have ever made ❤️ thank you @lisarinna for convincing me to do it ?"
