Word on the street is that Edie Falco might be making an appearance in “The Sopranos” prequel, “The Many Saints of Newark.”

Edie played Carmela Soprano, the wife to mobster Tony Soprano played by the late James Gandolfini.

She was a series regular throughout the show’s six-season run.

“The Many Saints of Newark” is more than a ‘Sopranos’ origin story. According to CNN, the main action, in fact, surrounds Tony’s uncle Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), whose son Christopher would eventually become one of the more unfortunate soldiers in the grownup Tony's ranks.

The role of Tony is played by Gandolfini’s son, Michael Gandolfini. He is more of a bystander in the movie than at the center of it.

Tony’s uncle Dickie takes him under his wing, but let’s not look past the fact that Dickie is a very, very bad guy.

Anyhow, back to Edie.

The prequel was set to open with a scene featuring Carmela.

The film’s director, Alan Taylor, told NME, “We had Edie come in and she dressed up as Carmela and we shot something with her.”

Unfortunately for diehard ‘Sopranos’ fans, the scene didn’t make it to the editing room floor.

Taylor continued, “It wound up not being in the final movie.”

As for why it was cut? The director chalks it up to confusion.

He told the outlet there was “some confusion” about how the film should start. Taylor further revealed that the movie’s intro is the polar opposite to what Edie had filmed.

“But it was a great excuse to see her again,” said Taylor. He directed several episodes of the hit HBO series when it aired.

In addition to Edie, Taylor revealed they also “shot a few things that included other cast members” from the original TV show.

“The Many Saints of Newark” is narrated by Michael Imperioli, who played the role of Christopher Moltisanti. Imperioli revealed he narrates the movie as his character from beyond the grave.

Earlier this year, Edie revealed she and James filmed an alternate ending to “The Sopranos,” but it was not used. She explained on Chuck D.’s New York Knicks podcast that the ending had a “Goodfellas”-esque ending of the Soprano family in witness protection.

“The Many Saints of Newark” hits theaters and HBO on Friday, October 1.
