Britney Spears Formally Asks To End Conservatorship Without Medical Evaluation

Britney Spears is formally asking a judge to end her 13-year conservatorship, and she doesn't want to go through another medical evaluation to be freed from it.
According to new legal documents, filed by Britney's lawyer, the pop star is asking for the court to remove the conservatorship by this fall. In the filing, Britney's team agrees with her father -- Jamie Spears -- that the conservatorship no longer serves a legitimate purpose and should end immediately.
As you know, Britney spoke openly in one of the recent hearings asking to be let out of the conservatorship and hiring a new attorney. But, the pop star has never officially filed to have the conservatorship dismissed...until now. Interestingly, Jamie Spears asked a judge to remove the conservatorship "without further medical evaluation" which is something she agrees with at this point.
Britney Spears: I Want Out, With NO More Medical Tests!
In the documents, Spears' lawyer points out that circumstances have changed in this case, which warrants an end to the conservatorship. Interestingly, the legal team points to the fact that the judge has already allowed her to select her own legal representation, proving she has the "capacity and capability to identify, engage, and instruct counsel of her own choice."
Britney's team quotes Jamie's dismissal filing, saying, "If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance."
As you can imagine, this isn't an easy task. Most of the 'Toxic' singer's life has been controlled and assisted by people who either report to her father or report to the court. The judge is going to want to make sure everything is properly taken care of before ordering the dismissal of the conservatorship. The good news, Britney has agreed to keep on her conservator -- Jodi Montgomery -- as an employee of the Spears business, so she can continue helping with day-to-day issues. The only difference is, it won't be forced on the pop star.
Britney Spears Is Asking For A 'Termination Plan' That Will End This Fall
In the end, Britney is asking for a "termination plan" which will be mapped out to transition her life from under the conservatorship to completely on the outside.
A hearing is set for next week to officially drop Jamie Spears at Britney's conservator. Of course, Britney's lawyer has laid out a ton of reasons why this should be done immediately -- including Jamie pulling in millions of dollars off of his daughter's work.
As you know, this has been a huge week for Britney after she announced her engagement to her fiance, Sam Asghari. It should be noted, Spears CAN'T get married until she is out of the conservatorship. Remember, a marriage is a contract in the state of California -- and she is not able to sign one. We are guessing the couple expects Britney to be released from the conservatorship very soon, and if so, we might hear wedding bells sooner than later!
Happily Ever After?!
Lastly, this is all predicated on the judge actually going for it. It's possible, the judge wants Britney to undergo another medical evaluation to make sure she is able to make the day-to-day life decisions.
The decision is now up to the judge.
