Jojo Siwa made HISTORY on Monday’s season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars.”
The 18-year-old made her ‘DWTS’ on September 20 with dance partner Jenna Johnson while dancing the quick-step, and their history making performance snagged the highest score of the evening.
"For the first time in 'Dancing with the Stars' history, I am dancing with another female. And I'm really, really proud," Jojo said. "I came out in early 2021, and what I love to do is make truly being who you are easier for kids."
As Jojo said, this is the first time ever in ‘DWTS’ history that a same-sex partnership has taken the ball room floor.
Jojo & Jenna Make History!
The Blast previously reported on the historical pairing after it was announced during a TCA panel with host Tyra Banks and executive produce Andrew Llinares on Thursday, August 26.
“I think it’s cool, i think it breaks a wall that’s never been done before,” Jojo said about being part of ‘Dancing’s’ first same-sex pairing. “I think it’s really special that I get to share with the world that you can love who you love, but now you can dance with who you want to dance with.”
“Without hesitation, immediately, I was like, ‘It would be so incredible and would mean so much to me, and I think mean so much to people around the world if I partnered with another female,’” she said during the panel “So right away, there wasn’t a question.”
While the Jojo and Jenna were cutting loose on the dance floor, one of them might’ve danced a bit TOO hard and given herself an injury.
Off to practice
Jenna exclusively spoke to Page Six about an injury she sustained during the premiere of season 30.
The pro-dancer had to take a day off from rehearsals on Tuesday, September 21, after injuring her knee.
“I should have known that there was going to be a flaw in the system, but no one had ever done this before. I slipped on JoJo’s dress, and both my feet actually came out from under me,” she said.
“While I was in that process of trying to squeeze and not fall … my knee kind of tweaked, kind of slipped out of place, came back in. Very unfortunate, but there’s no way that I would miss out on week two,” Jenna exclaimed. “They made me take a day off to just rest. So, icing the knee, but I feel fine. I did some therapy last night.”
Jenna revealed Jojo FaceTimed her twice on Tuesday to check in and make sure she was practicing her week two dance correctly.
“She is the sweetest human in the world,” Jenna explained. “She’s just, like, star student, already practicing at home.”
Get well soon!
