It is a sad day for the cast and crew of “Sex and the City.”

Beloved actor and longstanding cast member of the series Willie Garson has died at 57-years-old.

Willie played Sarah Jessica Parker’s character’s gay best friend, Standford Blatch, in the hit HBO series and subsequent films.

What many fans may not know is that Willie was battling cancer before his passing. It is not yet known if it was the cancer that caused his death or something else.

Actress Julie Bowen took to Instagram writing, "This breaks my heart. Willie Garson, a friend who loved me at my worst, (and always let me know it) is gone. Goodbye, Fatty. I love you always."

Willie was in the midst of filming the ‘SATC’ spinoff, “And Just Like That...” earlier this summer.

He reprised his role as Carrie Bradshaw’s right-hand man, and the two of them along with actor Mario Cantone were photographed filming in New York City on July 24.

Willie and Mario's characters played frenemies turned husbands in the series and spinoff movies.

Their characters, Stanford and Anthony Marentino, got married in “Sex and the City 2,” after having a contentious relationship from seasons three through six.

Mario took to Twitter writing, "I couldn't have had a more brilliant TV partner. I'm devastated and just overwhelmed with Sadness. Taken away from all of us way soon. You were a gift from the gods. Rest my sweet friend. I love you."

He was endlessly funny on-screen and and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional— always."

My heart goes out to his son, Nathen Garson. Nathen, I hope you know how much he loved you and how proud he was to be your dad.

Think it’s time fro you to go on an adventure of your own. You’ll always be with me. Love you more than you will ever know and I’m glad you can be at peace now. “We had a smooth transition because we both wanted this adoption. Fatherhood is what I always wanted it to be,” the actor told the outlet. “I wanted it so badly and he wanted it so badly. I think often it can be difficult because it’s not that balanced.”

Willie has starred in movies such as “There’s Something About Mary,” “Freaky Friday” and “Walk of Shame.”

In addition to “Sex and the City,” he had TV roles in “White Collar” and “Hawaii Five-O.”

Rest In Peace, Willie.
