Tom Ford's Husband, Richard Buckley, Dead At 72

Renowned designer Tom Ford is mourning the loss of his beloved husband, Richard Buckley.

According to People, Buckley, a famous fashion journalist, passed away on Sunday night at 72. Ford's representative revealed to the publication that Buckley died of natural causes following a long illness. A statement announcing his heartbreaking demise read,

It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley. Richard passed away peacefully at their home with Los Angeles.

The late fashion editor spent his final moments surrounded by Ford and their 8-year-old son Jack. Although not as famous as his younger husband, Buckley was a powerhouse in the fashion industry.

He began his career in 1979 at New York Magazine after earning a degree in journalism. He soon started making rounds in renowned fashion publications such as Vanity Fair, Women's Wear Daily, and Italian Vogue.

He served as the European editor of Mirabella and was the editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International. Buckley was credited for having a great eye for spotting talented designers before they even became household names.

He also had the ability to recognize new trends and was away ahead of time. He will be missed dearly by the fashion industry.

Since Buckley's death was announced, powerhouses in the industry have paid their respect with the iconic Stella McCartney leading the tributes.

McCartney, who is not only a big name in fashion but also a dear friend to the couple and their son's godmother, took to her social media to honor her late friend.

Posting a lovely selfie of her and deceased, McCartney wrote that she was heartbroken to be writing about Buckley's passing. She went on to describe him as "a gentle man" who always filled the room with "grace and charm."

The English fashion designer praised Buckley's intellect and passion, confessing that it was indeed a privilege to be known as his friend.

She concluded her lengthy tribute, writing she will miss Buckley, and he will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. She signed off her condolence with her husband and their four children's names.

With a partnership that lasted for 35 years and literally till death did them apart, Ford and Buckley had a love story only fit for fairytales. The lovebirds met in 1986 at a fashion show, and for Ford, it was love at first sight.

The 60-year-old fashion designer recalled in an interview how he knew Buckley was the one for him when their eyes locked during an elevator ride. At that moment, Ford knew that was his husband, and a month later, they began living together.

Early on in their relationship, their relationship was tested when Buckley was diagnosed with throat cancer and had to undergo surgery. However, Ford was by his side through the trying time, and they survived.

The duo was by each other's sides through thick and thin. They earned the title of parents when they welcomed Jack through a surrogate in September 2012. The young boy is set to turn 9 in a few days.
