In a recent interview King Leonidas himself Gerard Butler was asked about Ryan Reynolds’ new movie, "Free Guy." The movie that Butler was asked about was 2009’s Gamer. The plot for this movie is quite a bit different from what we see in Free Guy. In broad terms, in Gamer Butler's character is a prisoner on death row who is thrust into a video game-controlled arena where he fights to the death with other inmates. Come to think of it, that movie has a lot more in common with The Hunger Games than it does with Free Guy. Free Guy is pretty much a live-action version of Wreck-it Ralph.

When asked about his movie, Gamer, Butler went into detail about how he really liked the idea. Saying that the main talking point of the movie was to show how people were being consumed by video games. Sadly, people really didn’t enjoy the movie too much. Butler admitted that some of the creative decisions could’ve been thought out some other way. Perhaps that would have helped the movie. He mentioned,

“I was hoping it was of the time, that people would get it. I thought it was genius," he told UNILAD of the movie. "It could have been executed slightly differently, but I really loved the commentary it was making on where the world was going, especially in gaming and sort of losing ourselves into that world”

His co-star in the upcoming movie Copshop, Alexis Louder informed him that Free Guy was Reynolds’ new movie. Butler had no problem throwing shade at Reynolds. Saying,

"Oh s--- is it," Then he doubled down and said. "I don't watch Ryan Reynolds movies."

Ryan Reynolds Is Probably Not Too Worried

Getting Gerard Butler’s endorsement for your movie is never a bad thing. That being said, Mr. Deadpool is probably not worried that Butler had no idea that he was making a new movie. Let alone that he doesn’t watch the movies he makes. After all, Free Guy has reportedly already made 298 million dollars at the Box Office. More than doubling its budget. On the other hand, Gerard Butler’s movie lost money.

If you ask Butler though he’ll tell you that his flick lost money because of the fans! Maybe to be more specific the lack thereof. He literally blamed the flop on moviegoers. Saying,

“I didn't feel people really did get it at the time. It didn't do amazing business.”
