Rapper Ice Cube is breaking his silence on the death of comedian, Anthony Johnson, who played crackhead 'Ezal' in one of the greatest movies of all time, 'Friday.'
According to multiple reports, Johnson passed away at age 55 and his family isn't releasing a lot about his final days. A representative for the actor issued a statement following the tragedy, saying, "The world of comedy has truly been shaken, again. Our BH Talent family is heartbroken about the loss of the iconic legend of stage and screen Mr. Anthony 'AJ' Johnson."
It continued, "He has left with us amazing memories of his laughter, dynamic acting skills, but most of all his enormous personality and heart of gold. We will be in constant prayer for his entire family including his wife Lexis, three children, brother Edward 'Peanut' Smith, sister Sheila, and lifetime manager and friend Mike D. Please give them the time they need to process and grieve such a huge loss."
'Friday' Star Anthony Johnson's Death Is Still A Mystery
As we said, no other information was given about Johnson's condition at the time of his death, nor if he was suffering from any type of ailment.
Anthony's family released a small bit of information to the media, saying A.J. was found lifeless in a store earlier this month in Los Angeles and was rushed to a local hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on the scene after arriving at the emergency room.
Ice Cube, creator and co-star of 'Friday,' addressed the situation on social media, saying, "Sad to wake up to the news about AJ Johnson passing away. Naturally funny dude who was straight outta Compton at the same time."
Ice Cube Apologizes For Not Putting 'Ezal' Character Back In 'Friday' Sequels
Interestingly, Cube apologized for not being able to bring his classic character back to the big screen before Johnson's passing. "Sorry I couldn’t bring your character Ezal back to the big screen in Last Friday...," he continued.
Anthony Johnson grew up in Compton, California, and burst onto the Hollywood scene after playing E.Z.E. in the 1990s massive hit movie, 'House Party.' He also appeared in the 'House Party 3.' Johnson's acting credits include appearances in "Menace II Society," "Lethal Weapon 3," and "The Players Club."
DJ Pooh, who also starred in 'Friday' addressed the death on Twitter, saying, "Rest easy AJ." The best part, he included a video of Johnson's classic scene in the movie where he is running down the street with two VCRs.
