The highly anticipated Emmys 2021 has come to an end, and now it’s time for fans to get all the juicy tidbits about what went down at the event..
The annual award ceremony for excellence, honored the best in the television industry from June 1, 2020, until May 31, 2021, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Due to the pandemic last year, most winners dialed in from their homes to give their speeches while Jimmy Kimmel hosted from the Staples Centre in LA alongside a few guest presenters.
This time around, the attendees were given the opportunity to choose between attending in person or virtually. To attend in person required being vaccinated and making an earlier reservation.

Where And When Did It Take Place?
The 73rd award ceremony of the Emmys took place at L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles, California, and was broadcasted in the U.S. by CBS and Paramount+.
The show was hosted by Cedric The Entertainer, who debuted as a host for the show.
The ceremony which began at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sunday was displayed on the traditional television channels and was also available for live streaming via the Paramount+ app.
Viewers who were unable to tune in can download the full video of the event via the Paramount+ app and watch the ceremony at their convenience.
Who Had The Most Nominations?
It’s no news that the prime-time Emmys are usually competitive. Several stars and film houses, from across the TV industry vied to take home the desired awards.
The highest-grossing nominees among drama were Netflix’s “The Crown” and Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” as they led overall with 24 nominations each.
“The Crown” was predicted by social pundits to take home the top prize.

Marvel’s short series “WandaVision,” also from Disney+, dominated the series category with 23 nominations, while Apple TV+’s comedy “Ted Lasso,” led the pack for the comedy category with 20 nominations.
Other popular shows that got several nominations were, “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Hamilton,” “Mare of Easttown” and “Saturday Night Live,” amongst many others.
As for individuals, it is not strange to see some nominated for multiple awards for different or the same project.
Several actors such as Aidy Bryant, Kenan Thompson, Maya Rudolph, Jean Smart and Sterling K. Brown, received multiple nominations.
The Creative Arts Emmys 2021 Was Held Earlier
For those who were interested in the craft categories, they did not have to wait for the main ceremony to see the winners.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony was held over two days, a week before the main event. Day one focused on production design, cinematography, and sound while the second day covered much more.
This included animation and non-fiction programming, guest and short-form acting categories, music races, variety sketch series, variety special (live), and various special writing.
Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” walked away with nine Emmy awards for casting, cinematography, costumes, editing, makeup, production design, score, sound editing, and sound mixing.
Also, “The Mandalorian” won seven awards, while “SNL” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” bagged five awards each.
Bo Burnham’s pandemic comedy special “Bo Burnham: Inside,” won Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Music Direction, and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.
Who Won At The Primetime Emmys?
At the close of the event, several nominees went home with more than one award as expected.
“The Crown” series took the lead, as it racked up seven awards including Olivia Colman and Josh O’Connor’s wins for Lead Actress and Lead Actor in a drama series and the best drama series.
The HBO Max drama series “Hacks,” also scored a triple for directing, writing, and Lead Actress in a comedy series, with the latter taken home by Jean Smart.
“Mare of Easttown” likewise clinched a trio, including wins for Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters for their supporting roles in the HBO limited series.
“Ted Lasso” swept four awards off the floor, with cast members Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein winning Best Supporting Actress and Actor in a comedy, respectively.

Similarly, Jason Sudeikis was left with the Outstanding Actor Award in comedy for his part in the hit series.
Other winners include “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” for Best Variety talk series, Ewan McGregor, as Best Lead Actor in a limited series for Netflix’s “Halston,” and “The Queen’s Gambit” two awards including Best Limited Series.
Netflix was the biggest winner of the night with ten wins eclipsing HBO’s nine.
