Tracee Joy Silberstein, who was born October 29, 1972, is known professionally as Tracee Ellis Ross. She is an American actress, singer, television host, producer, and director.

She is famous for her lead roles in the television series "Girlfriends" and "Black-ish."

Ross is the daughter of actress Diana Ross and music business manager Robert Ellis Silberstein. Per her ancestry, her father is Jewish and her mother is of African-American descent.

She changed her name to Tracee Ellis Ross because she wished to retain both of her parents' names. This was when her father dropped the name Silberstein.

She has two sisters, Rhonda Ross Kendrick and Chudney Lane Silberstein.

When her mother married Arne Næss Jr. in 1985, Tracee gained new step-siblings, Katinka, Christoffer, and folk singer Leona Naess. They are all still close to date.

Before her mother and Naess divorced in 1999, they welcomed her two half-brothers, Ross Arne and Evan Ross. After the divorce, Naess got married to Camilla Astrup.

In 2014, Ross landed the role of Dr. Rainbow Johnson in the ABC comedy series "Black-ish." Her work on the series earned her three NAACP Image Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

She was also nominated for two Critics' Choice Television Awards and five Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

In 2019, she co-created a prequel spin-off of " Black-ish" titled "Mixed-ish." The following year, Ross starred and recorded the soundtrack album for the musical film, "The High Note."

Her Big Break Into Acting

After working in the fashion industry for a few short years after college, Ross decided to put some of her acting skills to use.

She made her big-screen debut in the independent film, "Far Harbor" and worked on other small projects before she broke into comedy as a performer on the MTV series, "The Lyricist Lounge Show."

In 2000, Ross finally landed the role that skyrocketed her career as the queen of sitcom television. It was her main role in the CW sitcom, "Girlfriends."

The American sitcom focused on the lives of four successful women who lived in Los Angeles.

Ross played the show’s protagonist, Joan Clayton, who was depicted as the mother figure of the friend group as she always looked out for her friends’ best interests.

She frequently dealt with her personal problems and hilariously found ways to balance different aspects of her life while making time for her friends.

Ross' Net Worth

According to Newsweek, Ross made $80,000 per episode during the 2016 season of "Black-ish," but CelebrityNetWorth.com reported that her pay eventually increased to $200,000 per episode.

In addition to her work on "Black-ish," Ross is a fashion enthusiast and the CEO of her own hair-care line.

In 2017, she partnered with JCPenney to create a 45-piece size-inclusive clothing collection. This venture was successful and the collection is still being sold in stores across the nation.

The following year, she launched her hair-care line called Pattern Beauty.

The line produces a variety of products with safe ingredients for curly hair. Today, Pattern Beauty is one of the top-selling hair-care lines on the market.

From what we’ve seen so far, Ross is showing no signs of slowing down and is moving onto greater exploits.

Personal Life

The 48-year-old actress has never been married and she's very content and happy with her decision.

However, In a new interview with Marie Clare, the actress opened up about the societal pressures placed on women to get married and have children.

When asked by the outlet if she once dreamed of a life with a large family, Ross said that she once did, given that the "society spoon-feeds it to you."

The "Black-ish" star also mentioned that she used to put herself to sleep dreaming of her wedding.
