In a very surprising move, Bravo has decided to cancel the reunion for season 13 of the Real Housewives of New York City. In an exclusive statement to HollywoodLife.com, Bravo confirmed the reunion is no longer happening but not because of the reason fans would assume.
“Due to scheduling challenges around taping the reunion of ‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ in a timely manner, Bravo confirmed there will not be a reunion for this season,” read the statement.
They pointed out that, “it’s disappointing to not be able to bring the cast back together, but we are happy to have ended on such a high note with the finale and are now shifting our focus to next season.”
High Note?
It’s interesting that the statement refers to this season as ending on a high note because according to “bored” fans, this has been one of the worst seasons to date. All season, fans have been flooding social media with complaints about the lack of entertainment.
Everything from fans being unhappy with newcomer Eboni K. Williams constantly talking about politics, to Leah McSweeney having one too many freakouts, to fans believing that the entire cast needs a complete shakeup.
The numbers didn’t suffer as much as one would assume because of course; fans hung in there hoping for something exciting but no such luck. The season ended and what was once a fan favorite is now a huge disappointment.
The Girls ‘Understand’
In another statement released to PageSix, a source claimed that the women have been informed and while they would have loved to hash a few things out, they “reluctantly understood”. The source also claimed, “it would just be so long since the finale,” by the time they could get everyone’s schedules to align.
Plus, “it makes no sense to have a reunion two months later, so they understand that part, but they are disappointed.” Rightfully so, the reunion is usually where the cast gets to throw shots to one another’s faces and answer fan questions. Both fans and cast members are missing out this year.
The Original Plan
While many will agree this season has been hot and cold, one thing that always brings the drama is the reunion and after some of the situations we saw this season, a reunion would be helpful. The cast was set to film on Aug. 5 but was told that “the taping is on hold until at least September amid a decline in ratings.”
Unfortunately, this season’s only highlight was reaching an all-time low in live viewers. A July 2021 episode had a measly 764,000 live viewers, their lowest viewership yet. That being said, it would have been nice to hear Singer’s reason for why she was so concerned with co-star McSweeney choosing to convert to Judaism.
Or why in the world, Sonja Morgan is again in more debt than she even knew with this clothing line. All topics that would have most likely come up via reunion host Andy Cohen or a viewer’s question.
Where Do We Go From Here?
Going forward, the producers are staying quiet about the direction New York will take for season 14. Fans have called for a cast shakeup. They are apparently sick of watching LuAnn, Ramona, and Sonja fight over Harry Dubin.
Some fans have expressed a return for Tinsley Mortimer who kind of got bullied off the show by the older women. Also, who else misses Dorinda Medley who always “kept it classy” in the Berkshires? No matter what they do it has got to be better than what fans got this season.
