Gabrielle Union Admits Her Inability To Conceive Left Her Soul 'Broken Into Pieces'

Gabrielle Union is getting candid in her new book titled, You Got Anything Stronger? About everything from her career highs and lows to her marriage to basketball player Dwyane Wade and that baby he had while she was struggling to conceive.

The 48-year-old wrote that her soul felt “shattered” when the 39-year-old revealed to her that he was expecting a child with another woman.

“The experience of Dwyane having a baby so easily—while I was unable to—left my soul not just broken into pieces, but shattered into fine dust scattering in the wind,” she wrote. The experience was no doubt a hard one for the actress.

Watching Wade easily conceive rightfully shook something in Union who admitted that soon after she felt the need to separate herself from the basketball player.

“In 2013, before we were married, Dwyane had a baby with another woman. It should go without saying that we were not in a good place at the time that child was conceived,” wrote the Bring It On actress. She mentioned the other woman by name, Aja Metoyer, a long-time friend of the athlete.

"I was convinced I needed to let Dwyane go,” she admitted. “Even if he didn’t want to, I had to let him find someone who could give him what he wanted.”

The child, Xavier, 7 doesn’t get to see the upset that took place between his stepmom and father because the couple managed to work things out and are “doing much better”. However, that doesn’t mean that that actress wasn’t completely “heartbroken” over what she called a betrayal.

“To say I was devastated is to pick a word on a low shelf for convenience,” she admits. “I have not had words, and even after untold amounts of therapy I am not sure I have them now.”

The couple has now been married for seven years and welcomed a daughter Kaavia, 2, rounding out their blended family.

After the duo rekindled their relationship, Wade spoke out about the incident that shocked and upset Union’s fans.

“I had a child with someone else and I had to tell her. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is man up and tell Gabrielle Union that I’ve had a child with somebody else. I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t eating.,” admitted the Miami Heat player in his documentary D. Wade: Life Unexpected.

“Me and Gab just went through something that you never want to go through and we still came out of it.”

The couple is probably the coolest blended family in Hollywood right now and no doubt one of the most progressive. Wade and Union share loving messages on social media to one another all the time, most recently, they got mushy to celebrate their anniversary.

“Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now,” wrote the actress on IG along with a video of the couple's happiest moments together or as Union calls it their “greatest hits”.

“My best friend, the coolest homie, mentor and inspiration, my love, my husband. I [heart] you @dwyanewade Happy Anniversary, baby.”
