Met Gala 2021 has officially begun! It was the night everyone has been waiting for, as all eyes turned to New York City for this star-studded event.
Over the years, the annual fashion show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has been known for “a night of exquisite style,” and so far, it hasn’t disappointed.

As the carpet kicks off, and celebrities make their journey through American fashion, fans are usually on high alert for Met Gala debuts, best looks, and couple moments.
However, all of that changed last year when the pandemic forced the Met Gala executives to cancel its annual event and postpone it to 2021.
For this year, there were different elements to the Met Gala. For one, the date changed. In recent years, the fashion show was held in May, however, due to the health and safety protocols, the event moved her date to September 13, 2021.
The evening theme was also different. The year’s connected exhibit came in two parts. The first part was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” This happened on September 13, 2021. The second part comes next May when the 2022 Met Gala will occur.
Despite all the excitement and a return to some semblance of normalcy, some famous faces were missing from the 2021 Met Gala. Below are famous people who were a no-show at the event
From making an appearance as Joan of Arc in 2018 to dressing as Cinderella in 2019, it’s very clear that Zendaya is a Met Gala staple who delivers unforgettable outfits on the red carpet.

However, for this year, she was not one of the stars in attendance. This was because the Emmy winner was filming the second season of her hit show, “Euphoria.”
“I know that this is the first time people are gonna hear that I’m not going,” Zendaya told Extra.
“My fans will be very upset with me. I will unfortunately not be able to attend because I will be working on Euphoria. I got my time off to come here and do this Venice experience, which has been really, really special,” she concluded.
She also added, gesturing to her “Dune” co-star Timothée Chalamet, “I wish I could! Especially since this fashion icon I am beside is going to be hosting.”
Fans had a few days to process the news, but it would appear that time hasn’t yet healed all wounds.
Kylie Jenner announced a few hours before the show that she wouldn’t be attending the Met Gala. She took to her Instagram story to share the heart-wrenching news with her fans.
“I’m so sad I couldn’t make it this year,” the 24-year-old wrote. “I can’t wait to see all the looks.”
This came five days after Jenner announced that she was expecting her second child with boyfriend Travis Scott.
Also, an inside source told People that Jenner was “feeling overwhelmed.” They mentioned that she pulled out at the last minute because “she is overwhelmed and just doesn’t feel great.”
In the interview, they added in part; “She did a lot this past weekend and pushed it. Kylie has been going back and forth for the last two months on if she wanted to attend or not and decided she doesn’t really need to go.”
They also mentioned that Jenner was focused on her pregnancy at the moment and just wanted to take things easy. Various celebrity gossip accounts on Instagram, including @deuxmoi, reported that Kylie jetted home to LA to rest.
Luckily for fans, she sent in her representatives; Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian.
After she pulled the plug on her VMAs performance at the last minute, Nicki Minaj revealed to fans that she would also exclude herself from the Met Gala guest list.
In a tweet, Minaj explained that her reason for not being at the sartorial spectacle was due to the requirement to have received the Covid-19 vaccine in advance.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t be for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one,” she said.
Although Selena Gomez did not come to announce that she wouldn’t be attending the 2021 Met Gala, it was reported that she wasn’t at the event.
However, a report came from her make-up artist Hung Vanngo. The artist said over the weekend that Gomez wouldn’t make an appearance.
The “Only Murders In The Building” star was also spotted by eagle-eyed fans in Los Angeles last week.
It was a far distance away from New York, where the Met Gala took place. Gomez made her last appearance at the Met Gala in a Stuart Vevers for Coach dress. This was in 2018.
