Do you ever feel frustrated that people seem to think that you’ve had an easy life because of the way you look or how much money you make? If so you’re not alone! Halle Berry recently had a sit-down with the New York Times. She’s making the rounds in different media outlets promoting her new film “Bruised.” The film will mark the first time that Halle takes a stab at directing a movie instead of just being in front of the camera. She took the opportunity to talk about some of her personal struggles as well!
It’s Not As Shallow As It May Sound … Or Is It?
Halle Berry saying, that she gets frustrated when people think her life is easy because of how good-looking she is, could seem like one of the most shallow comments ever made by a celebrity. As with anything in life though you need a little bit of context to make a more accurate assessment. Halle mentioned,

“I get really frustrated when people think because I look a certain way that I haven’t had any of those real-life experiences because I absolutely have.”
Halle’s Personal Struggles
Halle would also mention that she has had loss, pain, and abuse in her life. The abuse part is one that seems to be really true. Halle was essentially denouncing abuse way before it became very common for women to speak out about these issues. Halle hast lost 80% of her hearing in one ear. This happened after a physical altercation with her boyfriend at the time. As to who was the boyfriend that punched her and caused this damage the jury is still out. Her former husband David Justice defended himself against the claims that it was him! In any case, at least in the emotional department, Halle has had a rough go.
Using Her Personal Struggles to Tell The Story
Berry is essentially saying that she is drawing from personal experience to tell the story of the upcoming Netflix movie “Bruised”. Which she stars in, as well as directing. On why, she picked out this story to begin her directing career Berry says,
“I’m from Cleveland, Ohio. I am salt of the earth, it’s a world I know and is intrinsic to who I am. If I’m going to get to tell a story, I’m going to make it from a point of view that I know. I thought that was a very good way for me to start.”
What’s The Story About?
Halle is going to be playing the role of a former MMA champion fighter Justice. Who, is now a 50-year-old mother trying to mend her relationship with her son. Berry described her experience in both the lead role and the director’s chair as a heavily demanding experience. She claims that she was essentially involved in every single part of making the film. With her giving her input in things like casting decisions, and all sorts of elements that go into the movie-making process. Not just acting and yelling action and cut for her own scenes. Do directors that star in their own movies do that? Maybe that’s the real question she should’ve gotten asked!
