Met Monday is right around the corner, and we are here to keep you up to date on what you can expect from this year’s star-studded event.
Who Will Be There & When Does It Happen?
The gala will look a little different this year. Not only is it the first Met gala since the unexpected hiatus taken last year thanks to the pandemic. But it will now be streamed live and have hosts!
For the first time, on Sept. 13, fans are getting a look inside the gala and what actually goes down on the red carpet. Giving fans that glimpse is co-host Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman.
The Gen Z hosts will be new for the Met which usually has no host at all and just a bunch of celebrities posing in legit art!

And The Theme Is…
One tradition the event is sticking to is a theme. In the past, themes have ranged from “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, and “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”, among many more.
This year’s theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. Andrew Bolton, the curator for the theme is thrilled at the response from designers. “I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a renaissance,” he shared.
He gave most of the praise to young designers. “I think young designers, in particular, are at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclusion, as well as sustainability and transparency, much more so than their European counterparts.”
As mentioned, the theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” but the dress code is “American Independence”, an interesting theme for sure. PEOPLE Believe that this gives way for American designers like Ralph Lauren, and Vera Wang to be celebrated.
In the past, guests of the super-elite event have worn armor, turned themselves into alien beings, appeared like angels, and even turned into Cinderella! So, expect to see some exciting out-of-the-box tributes to America the great.
That being said, the bodies that will be adoring those lavish outfits are looking a little different this year.
Normally, it takes a particular person to get an invite to the coveted event. For example, Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, Michael B. Jordan, Harry Styles, even Jared Leto went a few times. In more recent years the list has lightened up a bit adding a few reality stars like Kim Kardashian and some of her sisters, notice the keyword “some”.

That is how savage the guest list used to be. This year, attendees will still include A-listers like Rihanna but apparently, there is a high chance of a few influencers showing up as well. Addison Rae could make an appearance as she is transitioning from dancing on TikTok to acting.
The main D’Amelio’s could possibly show up the family are reality TV stars now so that could help them get an invite. We can only speculate until the day of.
Where To Watch
As mentioned, this year, the event will be live-streamed by hosts Keke Palmer and comedian Ilana Glazer. Another odd pairing. Regardless, Vogue mentioned something about “unprecedented access” and that can be found on Vogue.com or on Vogue’s Twitter account.
The event is exciting and all but the memes the following day is the real entertainment.
