It’s not just the British Royal Family that has to deal with the drama of one of their members moving a million miles away from the family. The story of Prince Albert of Monaco, and his wife Princess Charlene’s alleged split has been developing for months. To be fair to the folks who thought that the pair was splitting up Princess Charlene has been away from Monte Carlo for months! Prince Albert though is finally speaking out and trying to clear up all of the rumors about their potential split.
How The Rumors Flared Up
Princess Charlene traveled to her native South Africa in mid-May. We’re in September and to this day she has yet to return to Albert and her kids in Monaco. During this time there was no official word as to what the situation was or why the Princess had not made her return. Naturally, speculation started building, and essentially people began to assume that the couple had split. With certain media outlets going as far as to claim that the reason why the Princess had not returned was that Prince Albert had exiled her! The story certainly sounds like a dark fairy tale.

Prince Albert is Coming Clean About What Happened
The lack of information usually gives way for a ton of different “versions of the truth” to develop. We know a thing or two about that! After months of keeping people in the dark Prince Albert finally spoke out about the situation. He claims that the reason why the Princess has been away from him and the kids for so long is because of a health issue. The Prince first addressed the rumors about a potential rift between himself and the Princess saying to PEOPLE
“She didn’t leave because she was mad at me or at anybody else. She was going down to South Africa to reassess her Foundation’s work down there and to take a little time off with her brother and some friends.”
An Extended 10-Day Stay
From what the Prince mentioned the trip was meant to be a short one. At least a much shorter one than what she’s ended up taking. As we mentioned he cited a health issue as the primary reason why the Princess had not returned to Monaco. From what Prince Albert mentions, things got really complicated for the Princess.
“It was only supposed to be a weeklong, 10-day maximum stay, and [she is still there now] because she had this infection all these medical complications arose.”
Reports now indicate that she had a procedure done to prepare herself for dental implants. The work was set to be completed in South Africa. However, something got infected along the way, and she’s had to undergo multiple procedures to alleviate the issue since then.
A More Down To Earth Monarchy
Would you ever imagine the Prince of Wales or even The Queen speaking about the state of her marriage this openly to a magazine? With the Princes of Wales, it did happen that one time! Prince Albert of Monaco, though, holds the top job in the second-smallest country in the world. He’s called “prince” and not king because Monaco is a principality. It’s a technicality, but in reality, he pretty much rules the city how he sees fit. Although there is like a primer minister and a city Parliament to answer to. He’s probably busy ruling, but could he have taken a break from that sooner to visit his ailing wife? Even with these explanations people across the pond still have questions about the marriage! On taking this long to give a statement the Prince mentions,

“I thought it would just probably go [away]. You know if you try to answer everything that comes out then you’re constantly [responding], you’re wasting your time.”
