Police officers in New York are on the hunt for a drug dealer allegedly connected to the death of ‘The Wire’ star Michael K. Williams.
According to multiple reports, New York Police Department has zeroed in on a suspect they believe could be connected to the possible drug overdose death of the famous actor. The criminal investigation is focusing on locating the drug dealer who delivered the product to the Emmy-nominated actor, which resulted in his death.
Law enforcement is reportedly currently conducting an investigation into the origin of the narcotics found at the scene of the actor’s death. For now, it’s unclear exactly what caused the death of the Williams, but officers believe it was a “heroin-based” substance. According to the New York Post, the substance was found on the kitchen table of Michael’s home and could have been laced with Fentanyl.
As we reported, ‘The Wire’ star was found dead in the dining room of his Brooklyn apartment and other drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. At this point, an official autopsy and drug toxicology are being conducted to confirm the official cause of death. Williams’ nephew is the one who found him “unresponsive” and told officers he was cold to the touch when he arrived.
Interestingly, several high-profile deaths have come after the individuals ingested Fentanyl, not knowing they were taking the drug. Prince, Mac Miller, and Tom Petty all passed away from the powerful opioid — and none of the musicians were intending to take the product.
As we reported, Michael K. Williams opened up recently about his struggles with drug addiction which came to a head while he was filming the third season of ‘The Wire.’ During a 2016 interview, Williams revealed he once stumbled into a church in New Jersey seeking help with his addiction. “When I came through those doors, I was broken. … This was, I would say, around the … third season of ‘The Wire,’” Williams said. Adding, “I was on drugs. … I was in jeopardy of destroying everything I had worked so hard for, and I came in those doors, and I met a man who had never even heard of ‘The Wire,’ much less watched it.”
At one point, Williams admitted his role as Omar Little on ‘The Wire’ as someone who robs drug dealers affected him in real life.
Several A-list stars issued statements about the death of Williams including Pee-Wee Herman who said he was close friends with the actor. “I just saw some extremely sad, heartbreaking news. My friend and supremely talented actor Michael K. Williams have died. We met on a film in 2008 and became casual pals. I was excited to meet him having greatly admired his incredible, insightful work in ‘The Wire’. Getting to know him, he was everything I’d hoped he might be—funny, serious, deep, sensitive, and joyful. He was absolutely beautiful inside and out. He loved to dance. And, that insanely gorgeous smile he had,” Pee-Wee wrote.
He continued, “We connected a couple of times a year, at Christmastime and on his birthday. I sent him a valentine every year on Valentine’s Day, to make sure he knew I loved and cherished him. I’ll miss you very much, Michael, but will certainly not ever forget you. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest In Peace, sweet, sweet man.”
