Janet Jackson herself took to social media to announce the launch of the first trailer for her upcoming biopic documentary feature. The 2 part documentary is going to be titled, ‘This Is the Truth, Take it or Leave It.” It’s set to air on Lifetime and A&E starting next January. As is the case with all trailers we obviously only got to take a minor peek into the documentary. What we could see though is that Janet enlisted the help of a star-studded female cast to help tell her story.
Who Is She Bringing Along To Help Tell Her Story?
Janet enlisted the help of stars like Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, and Missy Elliot. From the looks of things the documentary certainly seems like it’s going to be well-produced across the board. The A&E networks are keen to show that they are still able to put out relevant content on their channels. The Janet documentary is certainly a push by the network to ensure that people remember that there’s still life outside streaming services. Granted a lot of these channels that were once cable giants are having trouble keeping up!
What Are The Ladies Saying About Janet?
Neither of the 3 ladies that we mentioned hid their admiration for Jackson. As well as the influence that she ultimately had on their careers. Then again, if they wanted to hide their admiration for Jackson they probably wouldn’t have been interviewed for the program in the first place. Still, Missy Elliot said that looking at Jackson you knew she was a superstar. While Mariah Carey called her an empowered woman, and Abdul said that she was a force to be reckoned with!
A Story About Family & Tragedy
Apart from her rise to fame, the documentary is also set to cover her family life. Particularly her relationship with later brother Michael Jackson. While also potentially exploring Janet’s relationship with another late great, Tupac Shakur. Not all of her family life is gloomy though. Despite the known family troubles surrounding the Jackson’s over the years. Big brother Tito Jackson chips in a more personal note saying in the trailer,
“She will always be my baby sister,” mentioning this with a smile as voices of fans can be heard chanting Janet’s name continuously off camera.
Nothing is Off The Table
Jackson’s life, like that of most of her direct family members, has been riddled with controversy and frankly odd events across the board. Potentially, none of these awkward situations are going to be off the table. Therefore, we’ll get to see the backlash of the Super Bowl incident with Justin Timberlake. She’ll also get a chance to talk about motherhood, and as we’ve mentioned her family life.
Certainly, the way that the documentary portrays Michael Jackson is a topic that’s going to be up for debate. What point of view of the story are we going to see? Well, Janet said this about how the story is going to be told,
“This is the truth, take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.”
