Since he's known for his in-your-face raps and high-energy raps, it's very easy to allude to the fact that Machine Gun Kelly was a rebellious child.
The rapper, who got his nickname from a notorious gangster, admitted that this was undoubtedly the case; his overly strict upbringing pushed him to be extremely rebellious.
Despite the fact that the rapper had spoken publicly about the strained relationship he had with his parents, the death of his father still left him devastated.
The singer recently shared this heartbreaking news on his Instagram page, and mentioned how he had planned to celebrate the fourth anniversary of his fourth album, "Hotel Diablo," but then his father took "his last breath."
"I had plans for the one-year anniversary of Hotel Diablo today." That album was everything I wanted to say and I know it’s close to my fans. But my father took his last breath this morning, and I've never felt pain this deep in my life. I'm setting my phone down. love you. thank you guys for everything," he said
The singer cum rapper never mentioned the cause of his father's death.
Machine Gun Kelly's Parents Were Missionaries
When fans look at Machine Gun Kelly or hear his music, "religious upbringing" isn't the first thing that comes to mind. However, religion largely shaped the few years of his life.
Kelly was born in Houston but then proceeded to travel the world with his parents on their missionary journey. This took him as far as Germany and Egypt. He also said he learned Arabic before English. Kelly's parents eventually came back to the states and decided to settle in Denver, Colo.
This wasn't an easy upbringing. His parents split while he was young, his father suffered from mental illness and he grew up in abject poverty when they returned to the states.
Kelly and his dad moved to his aunt's place in Cleveland, Ohio. Due to his dad's mental illness, he suffered bullying from other children in the neighborhood. He later reconnected with his mother in his teenage years.
Over the years, Kelly had been outspoken about how much of an unruly and stubborn adolescent he was and how he disobeyed so many rules. He even claimed to have skipped a semester of high school and lied to his father about it.
Machine Gun Kelly Had A Strained Relationship With His Father
Kelly opened up about him and his father's strained relationship due to their different viewpoints and Kelly's defiance to his father's overbearing rules. They grew apart as a result of this, which the rapper said he now regrets.
In 2019, he posted an emotional tweet about visiting him for the first time in years. “Flew out to see my dad today. broke down in my daughter's arms when I saw him. I should’ve told him that I loved him years ago. breaks my f—in the heart that we wasted all this time…"
Kelly's father eventually died in 2020 and the rapper took it really hard. When GQ asked Kelly who he would apologize to, he confessed that it would be his dad.
"I'd say sorry to my father. I have such a rule-abiding, amazing daughter and I was such a rule-breaking, shitty son. The legal fees, the tens of thousands of dollars from the time I got arrested, and finding out your son missed a whole semester of high school because he was waking up and pretending to go but never going. I get why it took us 25 years to finally get along."
Kelly Says Therapy Helps
Kelly opened up to E! recently about going to therapy, learning to navigate problems, and becoming clean. He added that therapy had been very effective for him, despite the fact that he just started.
It taught him a lot of things including how to set healthy boundaries for himself and how to see both sides of a situation. Therapy also made him realize that drugs didn't make him creative, rather they were a setback.
"Everyone who took thаt pill would be mаking аlbums аnd writing songs if it did thаt for them. As а result, I wаs restricted," he concluded.
Kelly's Relationship With Megan Fox
Kelly and Megan Fox have been dating since a year ago. They met on the set of their upcoming movie, "Midnight in The Switch Grass," and it was love at first sight.
This steamy romance happened after the 35-year-old split from her ex-husband, Brian Austin Green, whom she shares three sons with.
Although there have been backlashes and criticisms about the age gap between Fox and her beau, she shut them down, claiming it's none of anyone's business.
"No one would blink twice if George Clooney was dating someone four years younger," she said. "Four years? Go f**k yourself. We would have been in high school together. That's so ridiculous that women are treated that way," she concluded.
