For years, "Twilight" wasn't a series, it was a way of life. After Stephanie Meyer's books rolled out in the most spectacular fashion, the movies followed suit, making it one of the most entertaining events in pop culture history.
Whether you became a fan as soon as her first book came out in 2005, or you joined the franchise later, it's hard to deny the enduring impact and appeal of "Twilight" series.
Needless to say, the flick was a massive success, like Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and the rest of the iconic cast, brought the story of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen to life and cinema has never been the same since.
In fact, by the time the final movie premiered in 2012, the "Twilight" army had grown so much that stars of the franchise had to run from the crowd anytime they stepped out of their houses.
It's been eight years since the saga and there's still so much to learn about the movie. As with all brilliant franchises, there are surprising facts and secrets that might surprise even the most die-hard "Twilight" fan.
Here are four surprising wild facts that will blow your mind.
'Twilight' Story Started From A Dream Stephanie Meyer Had
Stephanie Meyer, who was once a burned out stay-at-home mom, said that the idea for the story came to her in a dream.
During an interview with Oprah.com, she mentioned it was a vivid dream about two people in a kind of a "little circular meadow with really bright sunlight" having a conversation. She described one of them, who she imagined as the boy, as beautiful and sparkly. The other person, a girl, was human and normal.
"The boy was a vampire, which is so bizarre that I'd be dreaming about vampires, and he was trying to explain to her how much he cared about her and yet at the same time how much he wanted to kill her," Meyer said. "It really captured my imagination."
This birthed a story of a love triangle between a vampire, a human, and a werewolf. Although Meyer was an avid reader all her life, she was never a writer before "Twilight." She also thought no one would read it.
"It seems kind of presumptuous to me to think anyone else would want to read the things that are in my head," she said. "I didn't think of it as a book, only as a dream. And then I wanted to see what would happen with them. It was just me spending time with this fantasy world, and then when it was finished it was like, 'This is long enough to be a book!'"
Landing The Role Of Edward Stopped Robert From Giving Up Acting
Recently, the "Batman" actor opened up about his struggles with landing a role in previous years. He also spoke about how his "Twilight" audition was the "worst decision ever," and how close he came to packing his clothes out of Hollywood.
For the film's audition, his agent asked him to bring in a guitar as the scene demanded and unfortunately, it didn't work out for him.
"I just walked in and they were like, 'Oh. You brought a guitar. Do you want to play us a song,' and I was like, 'No. This is the worst decision I ever made.' I was saying no and they were like, ‘You just brought a guitar in just to hold it? Why did you bring a guitar in?’ My confidence just s—t the bed.”
However, the actor got the role anyway and since then, he has gone on to land other roles in brag-worthy projects. He had been in films like "Good Time," "Water for Elephants," "The Rover" and Christopher Nolan’s "Tenet."
Stephanie Meyer Made A Cameo In The 'Twilight' Series
The brain-box of the whole series made two cameo appearances– one in the first series and the other in the second-to-the-last.
The first series starts when 17-year-old Bella Swan went to live with her father, Charlie Swan in Forks. Once in Forks, she met Edward who eventually revealed to her that he and his family are vampires who do not feed on human blood.
The first series took some time to describe the dynamic between Bella and her father. This was seen when they went to a small, jaunty diner.
It's in this scene where Meyer was found sitting at the counter. It's a cameo hard to miss as the camera only focused on her for a couple of seconds.
Meyer's second and final cameo came in "Breaking Dawn–Part 1." Edward and Bella got married and Meyer is among the guests, specifically beside Seth Clearwater.
The Book Was Optioned As A Movie Before It Came Out
Film studios were certain that "Twilight" was gonna be a hit before Meyer had even finished writing it.
In 2004, MTV Films and Paramount optioned it. However, the screenplay differed so much from the source material that it was put on hold.
"It had veered very far from the book, and so I did not like it at all," Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke confessed to CinemaBlend.
It later found its home with the then independent film studio Summit Entertainment in 2007, who immediately picked it up, and the rest is history.
