The stunning birthday picture comes on the heels of the announcement Hayek will be making her debut in a Marvel movie — Eternals — which she will star alongside Angelina Jolie. The Oscar-nominated actress joked about initially thinking the production company wanted her to play an older grandma-type supporting role.
“Forget it,” she said when first hearing Marvel wanted to meet her. Adding, “God knows what kind of grandmother they want me to play.’ I’m used to being [told] I’m going to be the extra or the old prostitute. And then they said the director was Chloé Zhao, and I said, ‘OK! Let’s have the meeting!’”
Following the meeting, she was offered the role of Ajak — one of the most important roles in the movie — which was originally intended to be a man. “I’m so excited to join the Marvel family as Ajak, the mother of all Eternals,” she said at the time. Adding, “It used to be the father of all Eternals, but girls … this is OUR time!!!!”
