"Seinfeld," the famously gigantic show about nothing has taken its time to get to the Netflix platform, However, starting this September, all of the 180 episodes of the show are going to be available on the streaming platform. This is actually going to be the first time that all of the episodes of the show are available simultaneously. On the previous home of Seinfeld Hulu, not every episode was available to stream whenever at the start. Netflix, though, had gained the rights to the show back in 2019. Potentially, they had to wait for the Hulu deal to come to an end!

This may not be part of the original 100 million dollar deal that Jerry Seinfeld signed with the streaming service in 2017. The rights to the show were always floated around separately. When compared to how Jerry handles his personal business. The rights to the show though were bought by Netflix in a deal that they struck with Sony back in 2019. Those rights, as we’ve mentioned, probably had some type of clause to ensure that they couldn’t be used before Hulu’s contract was up.

Jerry’s In A Joyful Mood

From the way that Jerry Seinfeld reacted to the news, it wouldn’t be hard to assume that is going to be getting more cash from Netflix coming his way. Seinfeld mentioned in the glow of the news, how grateful he was that the show was still this popular saying

Netflix CEO, Ted Sarandos also commented on the news. Explaining that this was the first time that the streaming service took a gamble this big. Including every episode from every season of such a large show. That statement seems kind of off because they did stream the full Friends show for a while. In any case, Sarandos mentioned,

“This is the first time we’ve taken a risk of this nature, going all-in on nine seasons at the jump,” Sarandos added. “But Jerry has created something special with this sitcom that nobody has ever done. I truly think he and Mr. David have enormous futures ahead of them”

Jerry joked about potentially getting a chance to make more money from the show. That joke is actually very serious business for Seinfeld. Jerry Seinfeld as an actor was pretty much the first person to collect 1 million dollars per episode. He also owns 15% of the show’s rerun revenue. That adds up to around 60 million dollars per year. That number is the one that is set to go up. Seinfeld commented on this joking,

“We really got carried away, I guess. I didn’t realize we made so many of them. Hope to recoup God knows how many millions it must have taken to do. But worth all the work if people like it. Crazy project.”
