‘RHOA’ star NeNe Leakes is mourning the passing of her husband — Gregg Leakes — after he died due to complications from colon cancer.
The ‘Real Housewives Of Atlanta’ star’s husband passed away earlier today, after a long battle with the deadly disease. The 66-year-old was battling colon cancer for a second time, after previously beating the disease and going into remission.
“Today the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones, and wife Nene Leakes,” a statement from the family read.
It continued, “We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family & allow them to mourn in private during this very very difficult time.”
NeNe Leakes Shares Details Of Situation To Patrons In Georgia Lounge
Several days ago, the reality star revealed to guests at The Linnethia — a lounge she owns in Georgia — that her husband was “transitioning to the other side. The next day, the former Bravo star shared a cryptic message on Instagram of the word “Broken” alongside a praying hands emoji — which appeared to be a reference to the declining health of her husband.
“You don’t know what we’re dealing with right now. We walked in this lounge because we had to walk in this lounge because this is our business,” she said, after not wishing a patron happy birthday.
She continued, “So when people approach and say, ‘You’re rude because you don’t want to say happy birthday,’ my husband is at home dying. I don’t want to say ‘Happy birthday,’ okay?”
‘RHOA’ Star’s Husband Battled Colon Cancer TWO Times!
As we reported, Gregg battled cancer in the past and announced he was cancer-free in May of 2019. Unfortunately, cancer returned and his wife shared the terrible news during a live stream in June of 2021. “He’s been in the hospital for a week, tomorrow. I’m sure he’ll be home in about a week or so. He had to have surgery,” she said at the time.
At the time, she shared that the new cancer battle was “especially difficult” because he is “different.”
Fans of the reality show witnessed details of Gregg’s first battle with cancer, which was highlighted in the show’s 11ths season. “It’s very, very hard to be a caretaker,” NeNe told People. Adding, “People call and they say, ‘How’s Gregg doing?’ and I want to throw the phone and say, ‘How the f–k am I doing? I’m going crazy over here, Gregg is wearing me out!’ I am not good at this s–t I would rather hire somebody. Gregg doesn’t want me to hire somebody, but I’m just not good. I’m not good at fluffing the pillow; I’m good at buying the pillow.”
NeNe Leakes’ Son Breaks Silence On Father’s Illness
The heartbreaking announcement comes on the heels of NeNe and Gregg’s son — Brentt — posted a message encouraging people to spend time with their loved ones as his father continued to fight for his life. “Spend time with your loved ones every chance you get,” the 22-year-old wrote.
He continued, “Time is so…valuable dog. I can’t express it. I’m learning the hard way watching my dad fight every day. Please go create memories with ya people.”
