It was brought to Donald Glover’s attention that Kanye West may have ripped him off on the now sketchily released “DONDA” album. The cover of the long-awaited album is a simple black square which is basically the same cover for Glover’s rap persona Childish Gambino’s 2020 album cover “3.15.20”, which featured an off-white/gray square. The artwork for both albums certainly look similar besides the colour change but what do you want from a square, right? Even where the titles are placed in the same spot. The similarity was brought to the actors attention by fans on Twitter and after ignoring it long enough, he responded in only a way that Glover could respond.

‘Influential’

“I love being influential” tweeted the 37-year-old. Did Anyone else picture the actor's Atlanta character Earn nonchalantly clapping back behind those keyboard strokes? The toned-down artwork isn’t much to copy but fans still felt that it was their duty to inform Glover that he could very well be one of the alarming amounts of artists coming forward who have a problem with West’s tenth studio album.

After several pushed-back dates, "DONDA" finally dropped and since then there has been an insane number of musicians upset with the artist for one reason or another. Gospel singer Bri Babineaux shared that she was shocked to hear her song being sung by another gospel singer on the album. “Thank you to everyone who congratulated me on the #Donda album,” wrote the singer. “However, I had no knowledge of this beforehand. It would’ve been nice to know before the album came out smh…. Who does that voice sound like to y’all? #donda,” the singer wrote, asking her followers for more confirmation.

Other musicians that felt burned by West and openly spoke about it are Soulja Boy who went on a rant about the “On God” rapper dropping him from the album. Chris Brown also claimed that the rapper cut him from the album without telling him. Even West went off on his own record label just a few hours after the album dropped.

He claimed that not only did the record company drop “DONDA” without his knowledge they were the ones responsible for removing DaBaby and others they deemed controversial from the album. “Universal put my album out without my approval and they blocked jail 2 from being on the album,” he claimed in caps over a white background.

Glover didn’t get immediate praise from his Twitter followers for his clap back. In fact, the reactions were mixed with some being on the side that you can’t steal something that is so "general" and others believing that the similarities are way too similar to deny. “Kendrick did it before anyone,” pointed out a fan who shared a picture of rapper Kendrick Lamar’s 2016 album “Untitled Unmastered”.

Glover didn’t engage further with any of the comments after saying his piece, but the discussion continues to go back and forth. As for West, he has not commented on any of the musicians that have made claims against him.
