Halsey is a new mother at the age of 26-years-old, but she recently revealed she was treated as if she were a “teen mom.”
The “Bad At Love” singer welcomed her first child, Ender Ridley Aydin, with boyfriend Alev Aydin in July after announcing she was pregnant with her “rainbow baby” in January.
Halsey has been candid with fans that she miscarried a baby a few years ago and it was absolutely devastating to her and her mental health, so this pregnancy meant the world to her.
Her excitement and happiness over her pregnancy was quickly squashed by people who made her feel “shame” about her decision to welcome a baby out of wedlock.
BTW, this has been happening for YEARS! There are a ton of celebrities who have welcomed a baby without being married, Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott, Kourtney Kardashian & Scott Disick, Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom, the list is endless!
During an appearance on Zane Lowe’s “Apple Music 1” show Halsey explained, “I tried very hard for this pregnancy, and it was like, I’m financially independent, I’m pretty far along in my career, it feels like the right time for me to do it.”
However, that wasn’t the thought process for those around her.
She explained to Lowe the reaction to her pregnancy from those around her was “‘Oh, my God, you’re so young, and you have so much to do in your career, and you’re not married, and you’re this.’”
Halsey’s response to all the negative noise?
“F*** ‘em,” she revealed. “I just was like, I’m going to do what I want to do. You know what I mean? I was like, this is important to me.”
The singer revealed that promoting her new album while pregnant proved to be quite the chore.
Halsey said, “We were going out and trying to set up magazine covers based around the album release, and they were like, ‘Yeah, but is she going to be pregnant? Because we don’t want to do a maternity cover.’ And I was like, ‘It’s not a maternity cover. It’s about my album. I just happen to be pregnant.’ And they’re like, ‘No, it’s a pregnant cover.’ And I was like, ‘So I can’t go talk about my album?’”
Halsey’s new album is entirely about the joys and struggles of pregnancy and childbirth.
She revealed the stunning album cover in July. Halsey wrote, “It was very important to me that the cover art conveyed the sentiment of my journey over the past few months. The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully.”
You Go Halsey!
