Britney Spears might be facing criminal charges from the housekeeper slapping incident after the Sheriff’s Department decided to forward the case to the District Attorney’s Office.
According to multiple reports, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department wrapped up its investigation into the slapping incident which was sparked over the treatment of Britney’s dogs. The VCSD routinely forwards its finding to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
The problem for the ‘Toxic’ singer — the Department normally doesn’t bother with sending it over if they believe not a crime was committed or the case has no merit. Obviously, in this case, they want the prosecutors to make a decision on whether to charge Britney with battery.
Could Britney Spears Be Facing Jail Time?!
Interestingly, Britney’s team leaked to the media on the day the story broke that officers believed the case would “go nowhere” and she wouldn’t be bothered with it again. Clearly, that is not the case. It should be noted, battery cases are very hard to prosecute when the act wasn’t done in the presence of an officer, or there aren’t any injuries to the victim. As we reported, Britney allegedly slapped a phone out of her housekeeper’s hand, but she received no injuries.
In this case, there are two versions of the incident. Britney’s housekeeper claims she was struck in the arm after Britney attempted to swipe a phone out of her hand. As for Spears, she says she simply took the phone and was never physically violent with her employee.
District Attorney’s Office Will Decide If Britney Spears Is Charged…Or Not!
As we reported, a massive blow-up occurred after one of Britney’s staffers took her dogs to a veterinary clinic — claiming they were “near-death” from dehydration and poor diet. The housekeeper claims she decided to take the dogs to the doctor, and once she arrived decided to keep them from the pop star. Apparently, one of the dogs requires a special type of food but was being fed table scraps. After arriving at the clinic, the employee claims the dogs ended up with serious dehydration due to a lack of water.
According to reports, Britney believed the situation was the work of her father — Jamie Spears — who was just ousted from his position as conservator of her estate. The housekeeper allegedly showed Britney photos of her sick animals after she returned from the vet. The situation led to an argument that turned violent after Britney exploded over the person’s taking of the dogs without permission. In fact, Britney called the police on her own, considering filing a theft report.
Britney Spears’ Legal Team Hopes This Will Go Away…
In the end, the housekeeper filed a police report and the VCSD investigated the case. The problem is Britney refused to speak to officers, and they are no giving handing the case over to prosecutors.
We should be clear, even if Brtiney is charged with misdemeanor battery, she will not face any jail time. In most cases, the person will take a plea agreement which will include fines and probation — plus, they might have to do some sort of anger management course.
Obviously, Britney is hoping the prosecutors decide NOT to file charges in this case — which is entirely up to them.
