She is one of the younger competitors, but she isn’t the youngest competitor in the show’s history.
That title went to Willow Shields of Season 20 when she was just 14-years-old.
Jojo is breaking ground in a brand-new way.

She will not be part of the traditional male/female dance partnership. Instead, she will be paired with a female dance professional.
This pairing marks the first EVER same-sex to compete on the ball room floor in the show’s long running history.

The exciting news was announced during a TCA panel with host Tyra Banks and executive produce Andrew Llinares on Thursday, August 26.
“I think it’s cool, i think it breaks a wall that’s never been done before,” Jojo said about being part of ‘Dancing’s’ first same-sex pairing. “I think it’s really special that I get to share with the world that you can love who you love, but now you can dance with who you want to dance with.”
“Without hesitation, immediately, I was like, ‘It would be so incredible and would mean so much to me, and I think mean so much to people around the world if I partnered with another female,’” she said during the ABC TCA panel. “So right away, there wasn’t a question.”

“There are so many girls that are on the show that I would love to be paired with,” JoJo added. “I think Lindsay [Arnold] is awesome, Jenna [Johnson] is incredible, Britt [Stewart] is amazing. I think if I got one of those three, I would just be so happy.”
Jojo came out as LGBTQ in June and has been in a happily committed relationship with her girlfriend, Kylie.
In addition, earlier this year, Jojo opened up about her discomfort with a scene from her upcoming movie “Bounce” in which she has to kiss a man.
Jojo expressed this is not something she wanted to do or to be shown in the movie and requested it be taken out.
“I’m madly in love and I do not want to kiss another human,” she says. “Especially because it’s a man.”
Jojo later revealed on Twitter that after speaking with producers about the situation, they were fully supportive of her.
Glad to see history being made in more ways than one in Hollywood.
In addition to Jojo, Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee will also be joining the competition. Other competitors will be announced on “Good Morning America” on September 8.
