Playing a role in a movie can be hard– it is harder when it reflects on one’s past experiences like it did for Drew Tarver who played the role of Cary Dubek in “The Other Two.” For him, playing the role of a struggling actor, hit a little too close to home.
During an interview with Page Six ahead of the premiere of the second season of “The Other Two,” he mentioned that it became painfully real and reminded him of his past experiences with auditioning. In his words; “There were moments when you’re reading the script, it’s so devastatingly real that it’s like, ‘Wait are you guys just making fun of me?'”
He appreciated the creators of the series for a job well-done as they did a good job of capturing the experience of making it as an artist or singer, but noted that there were a lot of times ‘you just kind of shiver in a scene.’ He added that it was relatable while noting that, “This maybe says more about my acting ability than I’d like to, but I went to quite a few commercial auditions where the role is ‘man enjoying a party,’”
Hollywood Auditions
Every actor likes to get a chance to act in Hollywood, but it can be hard sometimes. From the pre-auditions which begins with casting; directors breaking down scripts, notifying agents who will in turn submit pictures, résumés and actor reels. Actors who make the first cut are then contacted for the auditions.
This goes on to the second stage, which is the actual audition. A script or “slides” are provided in advance of a television audition. For feature films, one prepared monologue is needed which would be appropriate for the tone of the film.
It’s essential to be prepared because the first audition may be no more than a few seconds, as all it takes is for an actor to state his, her or they name to a video camera. Then the third stage, which is known as the callback stage, is entered into immediately. Like its name, it tells the many times an actor would be called back after the in-person audition.
These sessions are mostly brief, usually a couple of minutes and recorded on video to be dissected by casting decision-makers which include Casting Directors, Showrunners, Creators, Directors, other Executive Producers, network and studio executives. Unfortunately, most actors who go for auditions do not pass this stage before they are booted out, and Tarver has had his fair share of those.

There’s a tapestry of scenes which would amp up the rivalry between the older siblings and the young pop-star.
Molly Shannon, who plays Pat, is so supportive of her kids, Chase included. After his debut to fame, she sets him up with a manager, Streeter, played by Ken Mario. This ten-episode movie which debuts every Thursday is so funny, and absolutely a breath of fresh air.
Season Two of ‘The Other Two’
There would be a second season, and it picks as Cary and his sister, Brooke ride the wave of their sibling’s fame and success.
Also, their mom, Pat, becomes famous by hosting a daytime talk show. This new season premieres on the 26th of August on HBO Max. During an interview with Page Six, Tarver said; “He is trying to ride the wave, and the wave doesn’t look exactly like he thought it was going to, but he’s trying to hang in there.”
Even as they go deeper into the genre of comedy in this season, the second season of “The Other Two” is set to display a sheen of melancholy, as reported by creators of the series, Schneider and Kelly.
