Right around this time of year, movies, documentaries, and other types of content are created around the September 11 tragedy. This year, famed director Spike Lee happens to be working on a 9/11 themed series for HBO. Everything seemed all good and well until it was revealed that Spike would be including content based around some of the conspiracy theories surrounding the event. Lee got a ton of backlash from the public in general when this information was leaked. Now, he’s asking people to judge him when the finished product is put out not beforehand.
What The Final Product is Going To Look Like

With the controversy surrounding the project, Spike may be currently hard at work in the editing room trying to polish up some of the takes from this series. In theory, Spike is creating a 4 part documentary series around the events and the aftermath of the events that took place on September 11th, 2001. That’s the original plan, but Spike recently mentioned,
“I’m Back In The Editing Room And Looking At The Eighth And Final Chapter Of NYC EPICENTERS 9/11➔2021½,”
It’s a 4 part series that Spike is making into an 8 part series? Maybe it’s an 8 part series that’s going to be divided into 4 episodes.
The Controversy

What rubbed a lot of people the wrong way was the fact that Spike was going to review some of the stories that conspiracy theorists have held for years. Lee essentially echoed a lot of the questions that people have posed on how the events that took place on that day unfolded. In a recent interview, he also mentioned,
“The amount of heat that it takes to make steel melt, that temperature’s not reached. And then the juxtaposition of the way Building 7 fell to the ground — when you put it next to other building collapses that were demolitions, it’s like you’re looking at the same thing,”
Promoting These Conspiracy Theories

It would be kind of odd if Spike Lee was currently in the editing room, cutting out some of the footage that might upset people regarding some of these conspiracy theories. In the same interview that we’ve been referencing, he literally says that he wants congress to open the case back up. That’s the goal of the documentary for him. He said,
“I mean, I got questions — and I hope that maybe the legacy of this documentary is that Congress holds a hearing, a congressional hearing about 9/11,”
Wait Until You See The Documentary Before You Pass Your Judgment

Spike seems to be ok with people having an issue with the final product. The only thing that he is asking though is that people actually tune in and watch before they pass their judgment on the content.
Part of the controversy that surrounds the documentary hasn’t just been the fault of Spike’s own words. Things really started heating up when it was revealed that he had enlisted folks from the conspiracy group Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth on the interview list for the project. The list also includes current NYC mayor Bill de Blasio and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
