Serena Williams has withdrawn from the U.S. Open. The professional tennis player announced via Instagram that she will not be participating due to injury. “After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring,” wrote the athlete who has won the U.S. Open six times. “New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world and one of my favorite places to play,” she noted but it just isn’t in the cards for Williams this year.

‘I’ll Miss Seeing The Fans’
The 39-year-old shared that what she will miss the most is the fans! “I’ll miss seeing the fans but will be cheering on from afar,” claimed Williams she ended her announcement showing appreciation for the continued support from fans and friends. “Thank you for your continued love and support. I’ll see you soon.” The announcement that was posted this morning comes after ESPN analyst Pam Shriver questioned where Williams was and why she wasn’t posting practices or anything tennis-related on her social media pages. “Where is Serena? Where are posts of her practicing and training? Where is Patrick Mouratoglou’s posts?”
“I Find The Silence A Little Bit Disconcerting”
The analyst had some pretty valid thoughts to sort through. I can remember leading into majors in recent years, there were some tells on social media from her close team, Jenkins her hitting partner’” Shriver noted. “I find the silence a little bit disconcerting following what happened at Wimbledon. It’s been quiet, really quiet. Maybe the camp has decided to be very quiet and it’s going to be a game-time, last-minute decision.” It looks like Shriver was correct.
Serena Pulled Out Of Wimbledon
Williams was unfortunately forced to pull out of Wimbledon back in June because of a leg injury “I was heartbroken to have to withdraw today after injuring my right leg. My love and gratitude are with the fans and the team who make being on center court so meaningful. Feeling the extraordinary warmth and support of the crowd today when I walked on – and off – the court meant the world to me,” Williams wrote on Instagram According to NBC, she slipped during her match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich and was seen limping off the court before withdrawing. Soon after Williams withdrew from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the Cincinnati Masters Open last week.
Showing Support
Williams has already received an outpouring of support from her followers who are encouraging the mom of one to “stay healthy” and listen to her body. Williams’s practice partner Patrick Mouratoglou showed support for Williams first sharing a cry face emoji and following it up reassuring her, “You have tried everything.” The official Twitter account for the U.S. Open also showed Williams’s support. “Get well soon, @serenawilliams!” tweeted the account. Noting that they will miss her presence at the game. They also slid into her posts comment sections echoing the same sentiment.
