Death is certainly one of the hardest topics that a parent has to talk to their kids about. For John Travolta, the topic was suddenly thrust upon him when his wife Kelly Preston died of breast cancer in 2020. It was probably a topic that he’d talked about with his son even beforehand. He mentioned to Kevin Hart in the Hart to Heart, the podcast that he talks to his ten-year-old son Ben about his brother Jett, who passed away before Ben was even born. The whole conversation between Hart and Travolta will give even the toughest person goosebumps.
Because Mom Died I’m Afraid You’ll Go Too
Travolta told Hart that he recalls his son Ben literally telling him, “Because mom died, I’m afraid you’ll go too”. That seems like the most natural feeling that a ten-year-old could have after losing his mother at such a young age. Travolta, though, recalls trying to calm him down, explaining that he’s planning to stick around for a long time. Presumably, he was in the middle of trying to lift his son’s spirits when he ended up hitting him with the cold, hard truth about life. Travolta told him,
“You know, Ben … you always love the truth, and I’m going to tell you the truth about life. Nobody knows when they’re gonna go or when they’re going to stay.’”
Dealing With A Ton of Tough Questions
John then recalled that as he’s finishing this speech about not knowing when it’s time to go his son hit him with another question that would’ve floored more than one person. Questioning Travolta about his own expiration date. His son asked him if 30 years was a long time. To which, Travolta replied that, of course, 30 years was a long time. His son then proceeded to tell him that he only had like 30 more years to live. Travolta told Kevin Hart,

“Don’t you think you have 30 more years in your life to live?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I do. I have at least 30 more years,’”
Staying Positive About It
Through this whole really rough conversation about life and death, Travolta was ultimately able to turn a ton of negatives into a positive. Ultimately telling his son that he feels like he’s forever 21. The Grease and Saturday Night Fever actor who is actually 67 tried to end the conversation with Hart on a positive note. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart is going through all of the emotions as well. Trying to figure out what he could say to not ruin the mood.

Getting Back To Work
Travolta himself has been getting back to doing movies and T.V. since the passing of his wife Kelly Preston. He actually received a recent Emmy nod for his work alongside Kevin Hart in the comedy series Die Hart. Where he plays Ron Wilcox. An action movie coach to Kevin Hart, trying to teach Kevin to be an action hero. Travolta is also set to be in the upcoming film Paradise City. His career had been pretty dormant for years. Until his portrayal of lawyer Robert Shapiro in The People Versus OJ Simpson, brought him back to the forefront!
