Since 2017, this actress has maintained her position as one of the highest paid actresses of all time, and while fans would love to see more of her on the big screens, especially if she’s starring alongside, Patrick Dempsey, the actress has decided to take a permanent break.

Now, she has decided to leave her fans with memories of her acting prowess, as she plans to retire from Hollywood as soon as the medial series WRAPS UP.

Ellen Pompeo Talks Retirement
Pompeo has been a part of GA for over 16 years, and in that time, she has not only received well-deserved accolades, she has shown to the world that acting is more than reading a few scripts on set, rather, it entails living the role you are called on to take.
Many of GA’s cast members left the series to be part of another incredible acting history. An example is Sandra Oh, who said her goodbyes in season ten, and joined the cast of another series titled “Killing Eve.”
Although more acting opportunities awaits Pompeo after GA, she revealed recently, during a latest episode of the “Ladies First With Laura Brown” podcast, that she isn’t “super excited about continuing her acting career.”
Additionally, she mentioned that she wants to take time to venture into business plans, and make business investments that would in a way increase her growth. Finally, the actress made it clear that she wants to use her brain for something else other than reading acting scripts. Aside from acting, Pompeo is also a recognized film producer, but from what she disclosed on the podcast, it seems like when she decides to leave Hollywood, she’s leaving for good.
Ellen Pompeo Opens Up On Typecasting
In the movie industry, when an actor features in a very long series, over time, fans and supporters start to view him or her only in that light. Despite the actor’s amazing skills, they are often typecast to fit a specific role that makes it too hard for them to continue.

Pompeo may have incredible acting skills, but seeing her in a zombie movie trailer is almost impossible for half of her fanbase to watch, in spite of the love they have for her.
Speaking about doing the same thing over again, Pompeo said; “I am super typecast in this role. I am 40, so I’m never going to work again. Even 15 years ago, the thought if being 40 was like ‘you’re over as an actress.”
Furthermore, she noted that now that she’s in her 50s, she wants to explore other opportunities, as she believes that she can do more with her life.
She Has Done It All
Fans have never really seen Pompeo star in a zombie movie, or precise crime action movie with the mafias, guns and arrows (if they use that), but the actress has come face-to-face with some of these concepts throughout her time on GA.
Before starring in GA, the Golden Globe Award winner starred in a number blockbuster movies and series, including; “Coming Soon,” “Friends,” “Law & Order,” “Art Heist,” “Life Of The Party,” and a few others.
Still speaking on the podcast, the “Moonlight Mile” actress said that while she may not have acted a million roles, she feels like she has done it all.
“… Sitting around in trailers, traveling around, shooting this in Atlanta, shooting that in Vancouver, I have no desire to go sit in trailers at 11 o’clock at night and wait to shoot scenes,” she said. To wrap up her statement, she actress explicitly said that all that she mentioned above is “for the youth.”
