It’s been about 4 months since the death of Prince Philip. The image of the Queen shedding a couple of tears, sitting alone at the funeral, was seen throughout the whole world. Now, the Queen’s grandson, Peter Phillips, is revealing some intimate details about that moment. The Queen’s eldest grandson also took time to reflect on the impact that Philip had on his life. While also describing how close his relationship to The Queen really is. As the eldest grandson, he holds a special place in the Queen’s heart, for sure. Something that neither Prince William nor Prince Harry can boast!
Not Being Able To Hug The Queen Was The Hardest Part
Queen Elizabeth has never been known to show a ton of affection in public. However, on the day of the funeral, seeing her sitting alone, more than one person would’ve wanted to give her a hug. That’s exactly how Peter Phillips felt at the time. Saying to the BBC,
“Everybody saw the image of Her Majesty sitting alone. It would have been the same for any other family, the hardest part is not being able to hug those closest to the person who’s been lost.”
Not Taking Any Shortcuts
The UK has seen some of the most strict social distancing measures of any country in the world throughout the pandemic. The Queen and her family have not used their royal status to avoid these measures. They could have held a private funeral for Prince Philip and bent the rules a bit. That’s just not the way that The Queen likes to go about things. Phillips mentioned,
“It’s the same for a lot of families. There have been some great sadnesses but at the same time you’ve got to try to take the positives out of these situations, whether that be new life or happy memories, that’s what you’ve got to focus on,”
The Queen Spending Time With Her Great-Grandchildren
With some of the social distancing guidelines beginning to ease up, Phillips mentions that his family has been able to spend more time with the Queen. Something that he thinks is extremely special for his kids. It’s not like most people get a chance to even meet their great-grandparents. Peter Phillips says his kids are very much aware of how lucky they are,
“They’re exceptionally lucky to have had two great-grandparents who have lived as long as they have. My children certainly appreciate that and know that it’s something special,”
No Comment On Meghan & Harry
Philips had the interview ahead of the Gatcombe Park Food and Drink Festival that is held in his mother’s home, which he now organizes. An event where the common folk get to roam around royal property and have some fun. Although he talked about The Queen, he refused to say anything about his cousin Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. The couple is still very much at odds with the rest of the royals. Most of the Royal Family members though have declined to comment on the situation!
