"I've got to tell you guys something. I have cancer," Kathy began her personal note. "I'm about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I've never smoked!"

"The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less."

"It's been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I'm gonna be just fine. Of course I am fully vaccinated for Covid. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. It'll save your life," she concluded.

Kathy Gets Support

Griffin has had trouble with internet trolls ever since she posed for that famous Tyler Shields photo holding up the fake, bloody severed head of President Donald Trump. However, her open and honest revelation generated some love as well as the usual hate.

"Oh, Kathy!! Incredulous and hard to say out loud, isn’t it? I’ve no doubt you’ll come through even stronger. Should you need an understanding ear to ramble on it, I’m happy to oblige (having been there). Your humor will be a godsend for ya. Sending Love!!" Actress Mo Collins replied to her tweet. A sympathetic fan tweeted, "There’s tough and then there’s Kathy Griffin. You got this KG! Sending love."

There were even some people who crossed the political line to show love. "I couldn't be more ideologically opposed to you, Miss Griffin, but I refuse to mock or gloat at this misfortune that has befallen you. I hope that our Lord, Jesus Christ, will bless you with a full recovery and many more years of good health. I'll keep you in my prayers," they wrote.

Getting Back To Work

Days before her shocking announcement, she rejoiced about getting back to work. She shared a snap of herself sitting outside of her dressing room trailer and wrote, "Back at work on a TV set, where I belong DAMMIT." For years, Kathy has claimed that she's been blackballed in Hollywood because of President Trump's influence, and, sadly, her recovery comes a few days after her triumphant return to a real set. However, the past few years haven't been all bad... except for that battle with her next-door neighbor, she tied the knot on January 1, 2020, to her longtime boyfriend, Randy Bick, and her ceremony was officiated by Lilly Tomlin.
