Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce caused a stir during their appearance at an NBA game.
The couple was sitting courtside to watch the clash between the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers, and at certain points, they were shown on the ESPN on ABC broadcast.
This, however, led to a wild moment as NBA commentators repeatedly referred to Taylor Swift as “Travis Kelce’s fiancée” or “girlfriend,” instead of using her name, causing a firestorm online.

Swift and Kelce, who are engaged and rumored to be getting married in early July, certainly stole the spotlight while attending the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. the New York Knicks’ game on Saturday.
Despite both being well-known public figures, NBA commentators during the broadcast of the game left the internet in confusion as they seemingly made a point to never mention Swift by her name, instead consistently referring to the pop star as either Kelce’s “fiancée” or “girlfriend.”
It started with the play-by-play announcer, Mike Breen, acknowledging Swift and Kelce’s presence by saying, “Travis Kelce and his fiancée here at the game.”
Then analyst Richard Jefferson noted that “Travis and his girlfriend are in the building, that’s always great to see.”
In another wild moment, Analyst Tim Legler appeared to hint he was unaware of Kelce and Swift’s engagement when Jefferson joked that he had been invited to the couple’s wedding.
While it’s unclear if not mentioning Swift’s name during the broadcast was intentional, it has sparked backlash online, especially from fans of the famous singer.
The NBA Commentators Faced Heat Online Over The Name Incident
Over on social media, things were in disarray, as fans of the couple criticized the NBA commentators for never referring to Swift by her name during the broadcast.
One individual wrote,” ‘And his fiance?’ Umm, she has a name, the biggest name in music, Taylor f-cking Swift.”
Another said, “The concept of saying Travis Kelce 56 times and not mentioning by name THE Taylor Swift as if she wasn’t bigger than the NBA and the NFL combined.”
“THAT’S TAYLOR SWIFT DON’T P-SS ME OFF,” another furious fan stated, while a fourth noted, “So disrespectful. NBA crew announced it as Travis Kelce and his girlfriend, not once but twice.”
“First time I hear the boyfriend’s name before Taylor, [who] just got called ‘his fiancée.’ Lol,” a swiftie wrote. “You mean that’s Taylor Swift and her fiancé Travis Kelce. You can do better sport journalist.”
However, amid the backlash, some found humor in it, claiming that it might have been done intentionally to keep the focus on the game.

Swift and Kelce’s appearance at the NBA game was certainly a delight for many, as fans stopped them at various moments to take photos.
One precious moment happened as the couple exited the arena, when a young fan asked Kelce for a photo. Swift, ensuring the fan got the image, stopped her beau from moving and also playfully photobombed the picture.
Shortly after, as the couple briskly left the area, another little fan tried to get Kelce’s attention, and Swift, noticing, stopped the NFL star again and stirred him in the fan’s direction. This time around, the young fan got a fist bump from the Chiefs’ tight end.
The Power Couple Shared A Kiss At The NBA Game
Swift and Kelce, who were cheering on the Cavaliers during the NBA game held at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, had several great moments caught on camera.
They hyped up fans, winked at cameras, and Kelce chugged a can of beer at one point while Swift covered her face laughing. In one particular sweet moment, the duo turned their attention away from the game to share a kiss as seen in a photo obtained by Elle Magazine.
For the NBA outing, Swift and Kelce ensured they were dressed right for the event. The singer rocked a black top underneath a black jean jacket, paired with blue jeans and black open-toe heels. Swift accessorized with a black purse to match the vibe of her outfit.
Kelce, on the other hand, went a bit more colorful in a red t-shirt worn underneath a short-sleeved blue jean jacket along with blue jeans. He also had on a red Cavs baseball hat to match his t-shirt and a gold watch.

Meanwhile, Swift and Kelce are planning their upcoming nuptials, with reports claiming the ceremony will take place on July 3 in New York City, although there has been no official confirmation.
Swift, for her part, is said to be doing everything she can to reduce information leaks amid security concerns.
According to TMZ, the singer ditched the traditional “save the date” invite and is instead calling her celebrity friends to notify them of the wedding.
A source told the news outlet that despite the personal phone calls, guests are still unaware of the exact location of the event, and may not know anytime soon.
