Knox, an American writer, was famously charged with the murder of her friend and roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy about a decade ago. However, after a thorough look into the evidence that was presented, it was determined that the Italian police had wrongly accused and coerced Knox into giving a false statement that led to her conviction.
Evidence also suggested that the accused was beaten into a false confession, and was not allowed an accurate interpreter for a language that she was still trying to learn. Although Knox was acquitted of this murder, she had already spent about four years in prison, and her name was smeared in the media.
Recently, a Hollywood film titled “Stillwater,” which has a similar storyline to that of Knox, was released to the theatres on July 30, 2021, and Knox accused the producers of trying to profit off her story without her consent.

What Is Stillwater About?
“Stillwater,” is a new American crime drama film that follows the lives of an unemployed oil rig worker, Matt Damon, and a woman named Camille Cotton, who set out on a dire journey to prove Damon’s daughter’s innocence after she was accused of murder.
The movie script was written by Tom McCarthy, and co-written by Thomas Bidegain, Noé Debré, and Marcus Hinchey. The film got its inspiration for certain aspects of Knox’s murder trials, as she endured hardships in her quest to prove her innocence, despite the prejudice against her at the time.
Since the movie’s release, critics have been giving mixed views about the plot, and how it was able to captivate the audience. Anyone who knows Knox’s story, can now relive it by watching “Stillwater.”
According to Rotten Tomatoes, a trusted website that rates movies according to how viewers and critics see them, rated this new film 72%. While this rating may cause for celebration for some, there is one person who will not be popping a glass of champagne for the film anytime soon.
Amanda Knox Slams The Producers Of ‘Stillwater’
Knox recently disclosed her discomfort with the producers of the movie, and the movie itself after it opened in the theatres on July 30, 2021. She went on to publicly ask questions regarding the movie, and why it portrayed her life’s story without her consent.
Does my name belong to me? My face? What about my life? My story? Why does my name refer to events I had no hand in? I return to these questions because others continue to profit off my name, face, & story without my consent. Most recently, the film #STILLWATER.

The post, which was shared with her 102.3k followers on Twitter, attracted over 21k retweets and 1.5k comments. Fans took to the comment section of the post to sympathize with the author, who has clearly been living in the shadows of her past where she was wronged by a justice system.
Moreover, fans were quick to mention that “Stillwaters” was getting many bad reviews, as critics see it as a mediocre movie. Although this was not Knox’s intentions, she vented on Twitter because she wanted to be included if anyone decides to use her story or elements of it in a movie.
One fan wrote; Your actual story, including what’s happened since, is so much more interesting than any of the fabricated versions that have been put out there.”
Another supporter acknowledged Knox’s frustration by writing; “Request the films entire production crew, stars etc do the right thing and pay you TWICE what they paid Damon to star is this film. Tax free. Along with an apology , PUBLIC APOLOGY for this travesty of justice . They should be ashamed first of all…..then sued.”
Amanda Knox Opens Up On The Effects Of Her Wrongful Conviction
According to Italian law, Knox was found innocent in the murder of her roommate, Kercher, and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) demanded that Italy paid her the total sum of 18,400 Euros. While all this was done to regain her honor, the damage had already been done.
About a decade later, Knox’s name is still associated with the death of her late roommate, and she has had to live like that, even all the way in the United States of America. Using her story in a movie without her permission, was not the only disclosure that the author made in her series of tweets on Twitter.
The result of this is that 15 years later, my name is the name associated with this tragic series of events, of which I had zero impact on. Meredith’s name is often left out, as is Rudy Guede’s. When he was released from prison recently, this was the NY Post headline. pic.twitter.com/5wgg0YUj59

She also discussed how difficult it has been for the media to see her in a different light, as she is often brought into the murder charges, while the real culprit is not often mentioned. In her Twitter thread, Knox shared a screenshot to show that people only refer to her in the murder of her friend.
