Donald Trump was depicted as the Mandalorian in a White House “Star Wars” Day post that has sparked a wave of criticism online.

The image, shared to mark the annual May 4 celebration, showed the president reimagined as the battle-hardened bounty hunter from the “Star Wars” universe. Social media users quickly flooded the comments, with some calling the portrayal unnecessary and others arguing it cheapened the legacy of the beloved sci-fi franchise.

Donald Trump As Mandalorian Divides Fans

The post leaned heavily into “The Mandalorian” imagery, but instead of the character’s signature helmet concealing his identity, it was shown removed. In its place, Trump’s face was revealed. Also featured in the image was “Grogu,” the Force-sensitive child central to the series, alongside a prominently placed U.S. flag held in the character’s hands.

The White House captioned the post, “In a galaxy that demands strength — America stands ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you.”

While the visual aimed to blend politics with pop culture, it quickly split opinion online, with some viewers embracing the creativity and others questioning the choice altogether.

Critics quickly flooded the comment section, criticizing both Trump and the White House over the viral post.

“Do you really have to defile one of my favorite movie franchises with your delusions?” one user wrote.

Others questioned the timing, pointing to ongoing economic concerns. “Damn, we really have fallen off. You have the president pretending to be a Jedi after he tanked the economy, and we are all skipping out of events to afford gas,” another commenter said.

Some also drew comparisons between the “Star Wars” universe and current politics, with one user writing, “Ironic how we’re getting a Star Wars post from a regime that’s looking like the dictatorial Galactic Empire that Darth Vader was working for.”

Donald Trump Featured In A Similar ‘Star Wars’ Post Last Year

The viral post isn’t the first time the White House has leaned into “Star Wars” for May the 4th.

Last year, the account shared an AI-generated image of Trump reimagined as a muscular Jedi wielding a red lightsaber, a color typically associated with villains like Darth Vader. The image also featured patriotic elements, including a bald eagle and American flags in the background.

The accompanying caption struck a far more combative tone, taking direct aim at political opponents.

“Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to bring Sith Lords, Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, & well-known MS-13 Gang Members, back into our Galaxy. You’re not the Rebellion — you’re the Empire. May the 4th be with you,” the post read.

More Memes Featuring Trump Have Circulated Online

The “Star Wars” post is just one of several times Trump has been portrayed in larger-than-life meme form.

In the run-up to the 2024 election, Trump shared an image of himself as Superman, with political allies also reimagined as superheroes, including JD Vance depicted as Batman. A similar image resurfaced in July 2025, once again casting him as the Man of Steel, appearing to parody a “Superman” film released around that time.

Not all of the memes have leaned into superhero imagery, however. In October 2025, Trump shared a video portraying himself as a king flying a fighter jet, dropping what appeared to be waste on protesters below.

Donald Trump’s Approval ‘Hits New Low’

Amid the backlash following the White House post of Trump as the Mandalorian, the former real estate mogul is said to be facing some of his weakest approval ratings yet. According to CNN, Trump’s most recent numbers have dipped into the mid-30s, a level rarely sustained by modern presidents.

The decline has been gradual but persistent since his return to office in 2025. Early backlash followed controversial moves like sweeping January 6 pardons and aggressive government cuts. Trump’s ratings slipped further after the rollout of global tariffs, which many Americans quickly turned against.

More recent flashpoints, including a deadly immigration crackdown and the ongoing Iran war, have added pressure, pushing even some longtime supporters to reconsider their stance.
