Leigh-Anne Pinnock is an English-born singer, songwriter, and actress, who earned her place in the spotlight after joining a British girl band called Little Mix.
The 29-year-old, who is currently expecting her first child, has remained in the spotlight in the past few years, and so far, fans cannot have enough of her. She’s well appreciated by fans, not only for her contribution to her girl group, but her talent in general, poise, and elegance.

Like many black talented female singers in the entertainment industry, Pinnock is setting the pace for others to follow, and be recognized for their talents, and the awesomeness they bring to the industry.
The soon-to-be mom was recently nominated for the 2021 Ethnicity Awards, which came after she released a documentary titled “Race, Pop, And Power.” Last year, she also received an Equality Award for her support during the Black Lives Matter campaign.
Many African-American stars in the world, are sometimes judged first by appearance, thereby, making their skills look almost irrelevant along the way. However, this award has somehow reassured these group of women that they are strong, bold, and beautiful, and can achieve everything they desire. Pinnock came into the music industry to make incredible songs, and impact people’s lives in the process.
Race, Pop, And Power!
This BBC documentary first aired in May 2021, and it revealed painful experiences that black and colored artistes face the industry, and till date.
The TV program also gave a detailed description of how these stars who have been tipped for gongs in the past. Some of the celebrities that featured in the documentary include; Naomi Campbell, Zayn Malik, and footballer, Rio Ferdinand.
Furthermore, the documentary revealed Pinnock highlighting what it feels like for her, as the only black member of her group, and how this fact contributed to most of her decisions. Also, she spoke about the plight of black artistes in the entertainment industry, and their need to work extra hard to attain greatness.
Pinnock’s program did well to shine the light on certain prejudices against black folks, and what it really means to be called a ‘black star.’

Racism is one of the biggest issues in many industries, and like many colored people, Pinnock has had her fair share of racial profiling and prejudices since she joined the music industry.
Speaking at length about her ordeals, the dancer emotionally revealed how she is always treated differently from her bandmates because of the skin of her color. Although it was a heartbreaking truth to reveal, Pinnock used her experience as a yardstick to bring more awareness to racism in the music industry.
Someone being judged by the color of his or her skin first before his or her talents is a major problem in most industries. Other celebrities who spoke about racism on the program include; Alexandra Burke, Keisha Buchanan, Raye, and Nao.
Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s Journey Into Little Mix
Pinnock auditioned on “The X Factor,” a music competition show in 2011, with a rendition of “Only Girl In The World by singer, Rihanna.
However, after she failed her first attempt at going to the boot camp, she was placed in a group with three other girls. Later on, in the show, she joined another group that was managed by Tulisa Constostavlos. After the live show, the group announced their new name as Little Mix. They also won the competition in 2011 and earned recognition for being the first band to ever win on the show.
With her newly found fame and family, Pinnock helped to create several incredible tracks and albums, some of which topped the UK charts severally. In total, the group has released six amazing albums, and continue to do more in the music industry.
In March 2021, Pinnock revealed that she had every intention of pursuing a solo career, however, her commitments to the girl-group remains. She officially signed a deal with Taps Music in the same month.
