Britney Spears just did it again … by pulling the legal trigger in an official attempt to remove her father, Jamie Spears, from her conservatorship.
In new court documents obtained by The Blast, Britney’s new attorney, Mathew Rosengart, filed a petition to appoint a new conservator of her estate. Britney is nominating Jason Rubin for the task, and he may have a long road ahead. Britney’s conservatorship has been going on for 13 years now, and recently, there have been a few major changes to her team that helps manage her affairs. Britney is requesting the appointment of a successor conservator of the estate to fill the vacancy that would be created by the Court granting her concurrently filed a petition to remove her dad, Jamie Spears, as her current conservator of the estate. In this petition, Britney has also made herself clear that this nomination is not waiving in any way, her rights to seek termination or other modification of this conservatorship.

A few weeks ago, Britney’s conservatorship judge recognized that Britney “has sufficient capacity to choose her own legal counsel, and she likewise has sufficient capacity to make the new nomination of a successor conservator of the estate”. Britney’s new nominee for conservator of her Estate, Jason Rubin, is a CPA, and she submits that the Court should appoint her nominee; in that, “it is an
objectively intelligent preference to nominate a highly qualified, professional fiduciary in this
circumstance”. Britney’s former co-conservator of the Estate, Bessemer Trust Company of California, recently resigned due to “changed circumstances”. With the new vacancy, Britney has asked the court to nominate Jason Rubin.
Britney’s attorney has specifically asked the court that the nominee, Jason Rubin, be granted the powers pursuant to the California Probate Code, as Conservator of the Estate, “the power to operate, for a period longer than 45 days, at the risk of the estate, a business or enterprise constituting an asset of the estate, and the power to pay, collect, compromise, or otherwise adjust claims, debts, or demands upon the conservatorship, or to arbitrate any dispute”. Some additional powers that Britney has requested for her nominee, Jason Rubin: to obtain all documents and records relating to her assets and to secure her assets, powers of attorney for making health care decisions and managing real estate, commence and maintain litigation, to prosecute civil harassment restraining orders, power and authorization to pursue opportunities related to professional commitments and activities, invest in and monitor assets of the estate, power to employ attorneys, accountants, agents, and employees to pay the expenses, to name few.
Jodi Montgomery, Britney’s conservator of the person, was granted an order to extend her temporary conservatorship of the person for Britney until October 8, 2021. Britney has expressed to the Court, and to the world for that matter, that she no longer wants her father, Jamie Spears, involved in her conservatorship in any way, and her intent is to end her conservatorship as soon as possible.
