Travis Kelce’s future in the NFL has suddenly become one of the biggest talking points in football.
After months of speculation that the veteran tight end might retire, new reports suggest he may not be ready to walk away just yet.
However, his next move could come with a twist that Chiefs fans might not be expecting.
Travis Kelce Could Be Preparing For Another NFL Season

For years, Travis Kelce has been synonymous with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Since being selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the star tight end has built a Hall of Fame-worthy career with the franchise.
However, as the 36-year-old weighs his future, The Athletic has suggested he could return for a 14th NFL season, though not necessarily with the team he’s always represented.
Kelce’s contract with the Chiefs is set to expire soon after a two-year extension he signed in April 2024.
While he remains one of the most recognizable names on the market, his next destination remains unclear.
Despite rumors about retirement, the three-time Super Bowl champion has yet to publicly confirm whether he plans to continue playing or step away from the game.
Chiefs Leaders Share Their Thoughts On Kelce’s Future

Inside the Chiefs organization, there appears to be strong support for Travis Kelce continuing his career.
Team owner and CEO Clark Hunt addressed the topic during an appearance on NFL Network’s "Good Morning Football," making it clear the franchise hopes to see the tight end return.
“Well as an organization, we certainly hope that he will come back,” Hunt said.
Hunt also emphasized the veteran’s impact on the field despite entering the later stages of his career.
“He had another great year, maybe not on par with where he was four or five years ago, but still had over 800 yards, and was really one of the leaders on the offensive side of the ball for us. So there’s no doubt in my mind that he can still play. We’re trying to be respectful and let him have the time that he needs to make a decision.”
Head coach Andy Reid also suggested that discussions between the team and their longtime star remain ongoing.
"There is communication. That’s the main thing," Reid said. "That means people want to move forward. I think that's where Trav is."
Travis Kelce And The Chiefs Are Keeping Conversations Open

While Kansas City would clearly like to retain Kelce, the organization is also preparing for multiple possibilities.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach recently explained that the team has been approaching the situation carefully as Kelce takes time to consider his future.
"I think we’ve kind of taken a different approach with Travis in the sense that I think we’ve kind of prepared for either scenario,” Veach said during a press conference at the NFL scouting combine.
He also noted that ongoing conversations have been productive.
Veach said, "Coach had mentioned on Friday that he’s had great dialogue with Travis on our end, myself, Chris Shea, Travis’ crew, we’ve had some good dialogue there — and I’m sure we’re going to see him here just like we will all the other players’ agents and we’ll continue that dialogue."
The team’s measured response reflects how significant Kelce has been to the franchise over the past decade.
Kelce Explains What Could Bring Him Back

While Travis Kelce has not yet finalized his decision, he has been open about how much he still loves football.
Speaking on his "New Heights" podcast with his brother, Jason, the veteran star explained that returning for another season is a possibility under the right circumstances.
“At the same time, if my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think, I would do it in a heartbeat," he said.
Kelce also admitted he’s taking time to reflect on what the next chapter of his career should look like.
“I think, yeah, just being a regular human for a couple weeks, maybe a month or so, trying to figure out what I'm gonna do next in terms of my future in football,” Kelce said.
He added that he has already started discussing the situation with people inside the organization, noting, “And I think, you know, I've talked to a few people in the facility already, you know, having the exit meetings and everything, and, they know where I stand at least right now.”
Travis Kelce Wants To Do Right By His Team

Kelce also acknowledged that any decision he makes will consider what’s best for the Chiefs moving forward.
"You know, seeing my brother go through it and seeing...just how the league works, the season kind of restarts in April, and I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity to know whether I come back or not," he explained.
He also joked about the uncertainty from both sides of the equation. "And vice versa," Kelce continued with a smile. "Like, whether they want me back or not, it's one of those things where I'd like to make that decision before they've got to get draft picks and free agency opens up."
Ultimately, Kelce said his goal is to help the team remain competitive.
He explained that making a timely decision would allow the organization to plan its roster for the upcoming season and give them the best chance at success.
"So, all of that will be at the end of the season and I won't be thinking about it until then," Kelce said.
For now, fans are left waiting to see whether one of the NFL’s most recognizable stars will return for another run or whether the next chapter of Kelce’s career could take him somewhere entirely unexpected.
The uncertainty surrounding Kelce’s career plans comes as he heads into what is shaping up to be a busy year.
The NFL star is also expected to marry Taylor Swift this summer.
Although June 13 has circulated as a possible wedding date, neither Kelce nor Swift has publicly confirmed it.
