Prince William’s Subtle Move During Kate and Beatrice Moment Raises Eyebrows

Observers of the British royal family are revisiting an old moment involving Kate Middleton and Princess Beatrice, after a body language expert pointed out what appeared to be an awkward interaction between the two women. 

Footage from a past royal outing has resurfaced, sparking fresh discussion about their relationship. 

While the moment initially seemed minor, subtle gestures, particularly from Prince William, have prompted some royal watchers to question whether tensions within the extended family have existed longer than previously believed.

The moment in question took place during Royal Ascot in 2017, when members of the royal family gathered for the prestigious racing event.

At one point, Kate Middleton appeared engaged in a lively conversation with Zara Tindall, while Mike Tindall and Prince William chatted nearby. 

According to body language expert Judi James, the dynamic shifted when Princess Beatrice attempted to join the group.

James suggested that Kate’s reaction seemed unusually restrained compared to the warmth she had been showing moments earlier.

In the footage, Beatrice approached the group and appeared to laugh with Mike. However, the interaction did not unfold as smoothly as expected. 

Rather than seamlessly joining the conversation, the moment reportedly created a slight disruption in the group’s dynamic.

Instead of leaning toward Beatrice or acknowledging her entrance into the conversation, the Princess of Wales appeared to pull back slightly and remain quiet.

“Kate’s ‘acceptance’ of Beatrice into her social group of three looks flimsy and even a little frosty here, hinting at a degree of distancing that pre-dated most of the recent strain of the Epstein scandal,” James told the Daily Mail.

While Kate Middleton’s reaction stood out, observers were equally intrigued by Prince William’s subtle response during the moment.

According to the body language expert, the Prince of Wales appeared to glance toward his wife before making a small gesture that suggested he was trying to manage the situation.

James explained that the prince appeared to “touch his face and look at Kate” while seemingly attempting to create space between Beatrice and the rest of the group.

The expert interpreted the move as a quiet attempt to block the princess from fully joining the conversation. 

In her analysis, William’s posture gave the impression that he was trying to “form a barrier with Beatrice.”

As the interaction unfolded, Beatrice appeared to struggle to integrate herself into the discussion. Eventually, she appeared to step away from the group.

James described the moment as a subtle social setback for the princess, noting that she ultimately “appears to give up” before slowly withdrawing from the conversation.

The resurfaced footage has fueled renewed speculation about the nature of Kate’s relationship with Princess Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie.

Royal commentators have suggested that tensions may have been influenced by the controversies surrounding their father, ex-Prince Andrew, particularly following his infamous Newsnight interview in 2019.

During that interview, Andrew attempted to defend himself against allegations tied to Jeffrey Epstein. 

In doing so, he referenced celebrating Beatrice’s birthday at PizzaExpress Woking, a claim that quickly became one of the most widely discussed moments from the broadcast.

Reports later indicated that Beatrice had been involved in discussions leading up to the interview.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that developments surrounding the York family could explain why Kate and William have reportedly been careful about their interactions with the sisters.

Per the Daily Mail, Fitzwilliams said it was “unsurprising” that the Princess of Wales has become “cautious in her relations” with them, adding that the couple may prefer to keep some distance while the situation remains sensitive.

Years after the 2017 moment, another interaction between Kate Middleton and Princess Beatrice reportedly raised similar questions.

In 2023, the two women rode together in a carriage during Royal Ascot, accompanied by Prince William and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

While they smiled and waved to crowds watching the procession, observers noted that their body language told a different story.

According to James, the seating arrangement, with the women positioned face-to-face, created an inherently awkward dynamic.

“Face-to-face and knee-to-knee sitting creates an uneasy proximity and invasion of social space,” she said.

Rather than compensating with friendly gestures or conversation, both women appeared to maintain stiff postures throughout the ride.

James said they remained largely disengaged from one another, adding that there was “no exchange of glances and the two women appear to ignore each other in the moment.”

The resurfaced footage and body language analysis come at a time when Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are reportedly facing new challenges within the royal family.

Sources have claimed the sisters were unexpectedly excluded from participating in this year’s Royal Ascot, including being barred from the prestigious Royal Box and the ceremonial carriage procession.

The development is said to be part of a broader effort by the palace to limit the sisters’ involvement in high-profile royal appearances amid the continued fallout from the controversies surrounding former Prince Andrew.

One insider revealed that the decision came as a shock to the princesses. “I’ve spoken to my friend who works at Ascot and they said the girls have been told they can’t be there this year. Beatrice has taken it the hardest. She’s been completely blindsided by all of this,” they said.

The restrictions reportedly extend beyond the event itself. According to sources, Prince William has advised other members of the royal family to avoid appearing in photographs with the sisters for the time being.

For Beatrice and Eugenie, the decision could represent a significant shift in their public role within the royal family and another sign of how sensitive the situation surrounding the House of York remains.
