Erika Kirk is facing fresh scrutiny for calling herself "the sole provider" for her children after the death of her husband, Charlie Kirk.

The late right-wing activist's friend, Candace Owens, who has become one of his wife's biggest critics since his passing, claims Erika's comments downplay Charlie's financial planning, including life insurance and investments, and misrepresent the support the new CEO has received from donations.

Erika Kirk, meanwhile, says she is honoring her late husband's wishes, managing her own business, and balancing her role with raising their children.

Erika Kirk's 'Sole Provider' Claim Questioned Amid Charlie Kirk's Financial Preparations

During the Thursday, March 5 episode of her "Bride of Charlie" documentary, Candace Owens pushed back against comments made by Erika Kirk at a recent Turning Point USA event in which she described herself as "the sole provider" for her children following the death of her husband, Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot in September 2025.

Owens argued that the remark "discounts who Charlie was. How genius he was, and how financially savvy he was."

According to the YouTuber, portraying the situation this way makes it seem as though Charlie failed to leave his family financially prepared, and suggested that Erika is "trying to relate like she's just like a single mom and trying and working a 9 to 5, working at a restaurant trying to make ends meet for her children, and the father's gone."

Owens claimed the late activist had carefully organized his finances, including investments, trusts for his children, and life insurance policies. She also alleged that Erika would have received a significant payout from his work-related life insurance policy, suggesting the amount could be around $10 million.

"No, Charlie always had his financial house in order," the 36-year-old commentator said, adding that he had long ensured his family would be financially secure.

Owens further pointed out that "millions were raised" online for Erika and her children after Charlie's death, including support from well-known figures such as Tucker Carlson and other high-profile individuals.

Based on that, Owens argued that Erika's situation does not align with the image of someone struggling financially.

She suggested that the level of resources available to Erika, including private travel, security, and other forms of support, contradicts the narrative of financial hardship.

"She wants you to believe that she is just like you, only worse off because she's a single mom trying to survive for the sake of her kids with a private jet and drivers," she said.

Owens added, "This girl doesn't even touch her own door handles, just to be clear. She's constantly got oh, also a fleet of security, but she's just like you. You know, 'this is the hand I was dealt. I'm the only provider, so I got to get on my private plane and speak.'"

Owens' comments come amid ongoing public scrutiny surrounding Erika's role following Charlie's death.

In September, Erika addressed supporters for the first time since her husband's passing, declaring that the movement he created would continue.

Shortly afterward, she was appointed CEO of Turning Point USA. In a statement shared on social media on September 18, the organization said Charlie had wanted Erika to step into the role if anything happened to him.

Her appointment sparked online discussion, with some critics questioning how she was balancing the position with caring for her two young children, a daughter born in August 2022 and a son born in May 2024.

Some social media users also accused her of attempting to take control of Charlie's legacy, with one writing: "It's so obvious she treated her husband's death as the opportunity of a lifetime."

Her public appearances and speeches in his memory also raised questions about the authenticity of her grieving process.

Erika addressed the criticisms of her new role during her recent speech, shared on Turning Point USA's social media accounts.

Responding to claims that she should return to being a stay-at-home mother, the former pageant queen explained that she had built her own company before meeting Charlie.

Erika also noted that she designed her business in a way that it could operate independently after she started a family.

"I built it in a way that when I got married and had children, it could run on its own. I didn't have to do day-to-day," she said, per The Blast.

Erika added that she never expected to find herself in her current position but believes she is honoring both her husband's wishes and her faith by continuing the work he started.

"This is not a business card opportunity," she said. "There is something very biblical in a woman honoring her husband and stepping up and standing in."

She concluded by saying her main priority remains raising her children as "amazing, young, biblically-aligned little humans," while ensuring that the work she is doing reflects her values and her late husband's legacy.
