"She is such a great person, and we all make mistakes. It makes me feel bad when she suffers such public mistakes. I want the world to know she's a great person...We all make mistakes," Phillips noted.

"The change I would like to see is for her to get out of Los Angeles. But I have been talking to her weekly, daily," he said.

Phillips added that, based on his conversations with her, he still recognizes the same person he knew years ago.

"She's the same Britney that I knew in 2003. There is no dissociation with her that I have with her character and personality."

Still, he hinted that certain people in Spears' current circle could be contributing to the challenges she is facing.

"You have to think about who else is she associating herself with," he said, though he did not elaborate further.
