The star was reportedly taken into custody last night in Ventura County, California, for driving while intoxicated. She was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, but was released, according to Ventura County Sheriff's inmate records.

Spears was arrested days after she secured a permanent restraining order against a man from Louisiana who randomly showed up at her Los Angeles home and accompanied it with scary posts on social media.

The man, aged 51, has reportedly been harassing her online since 2013, as stated in the musician's legal filing. As reported by TMZ, the culprit was also arrested for illegally trespassing at her residence last year.

This latest arrest is not Spears' first rodeo at traffic crimes; in 2007, she was charged with one count of hit and run, which caused property damage, and one count of driving without a valid California driver's license.

The hit-and-run encounter happened in a private parking lot in the San Fernando Valley, where she was accused of hitting that car and running away. The misdemeanor charges, according to Reuters, carried a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The singer was notified about the hearing via a letter, which meant she did not have to attend, since the charges are misdemeanors. Spears' fender bender came a few days after her underwhelming performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

Last year, the performer made headlines for lighting a cigarette on the plane and only changing her mind at the request of the flight attendants. As reported by PEOPLE, the action also prompted airport authorities to issue her a warning.

Spears reacted to the news the day after the incident occurred, explaining her side of the story and stating that while some planes she had been on in the past had strict rules against smoking, her flight with this airline was different.

The singer noted that drink holders were on the outside of the seat, which meant that they were probably allowed to drink alcohol.

She added that after drinking vodka and getting excited, she requested for a cigarette, and her friend was willing to do the honors of lighting it, giving her the impression that she could go all the way. Spears then apologized for the action and clarified that even contacting authorities about it was over the top.

"The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette!!! And embarrass me, which, jeez, I thought was kinda much, but she didn't like me the moment I got on the plane !!!" the star explained.

Just last month, the legal documents from an important transaction made by the star surfaced. As noted by The Blast, she agreed to sell her ownership share of hits to a music publication company.

While details of payment were not revealed, it was hinted that Spears made hundreds of millions from the sale that happened on the 30th of September under the wings of her manager, Cade Hudson.

Memorable hits from her catalog, such as "Baby One More Time," "Break The Ice," "I Wanna Go," "I'm a Slave 4 U," "Sometimes," "Womanizer," "Toxic," all now belong to the Primary Wave publishing company.

Spears joined a lineup of other artists like Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Bob Dylan, KISS, and others who sold off their rights in recent times.

The media personality welcomed her two lovely boys during her marriage to Kevin Federline, and unfortunately, lost touch with them for a while after her ex-husband filed for and got full custody of their two boys during their divorce.

The Blast continued that the line further strained when she was thrown into the conservatorship program in 2008, which she stayed in for nearly 15 years until her freedom in 2021.

By 2024, Spears reunited with Jayden James, her second son and younger brother to Sean Preston, and she flaunted pictures of them together on Instagram.

Federline confirmed last year that the actress and her two sons were working on their relationship, against the backdrop that love has always existed between them. Spears' ex continued that he wished for years that they would enjoy such a healthy relationship, and now he could not be happier that it has come to fruition.
