Warnings now loom large in the heartbreaking case surrounding Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

As prosecutors move forward against their son Nick, new claims suggest medical professionals urged caution before tragedy struck.

Those cautions, sources say, centered on medication changes, unstable behavior, and a difficult decision about whether Nick should remain living at home during a tense family period.

In the weeks before Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found stabbed to death inside their $13.5 million Brentwood home, sources say the couple received stark medical advice about their son’s living situation.

Nick Reiner had reportedly fired his psychiatrist and switched medications shortly before the killings.

According to a source who spoke with Us Weekly, the concern was immediate and serious.

“The medical staff warned Rob and Michele not to let Nick live at home until he got his medication straightened out,” the source said.

Another insider told the publication the couple was actively trying to help their son manage his prescriptions because “they weren’t working anymore.”

The situation, sources allege, placed the family in a fragile and emotionally charged position.

As the medication changes continued, warnings reportedly became more urgent.

A second source emphasized that medical professionals feared unintended consequences from the switch.

The insider said the family’s medical staff had “warned Rob and Michele not to allow Nick to stay at their home due to the meds being switched, and [said] that it could make him exhibit even more erratic behavior.”

Despite those cautions, Nick remained closely connected to his parents in the weeks before their deaths.

Nick, who has previously been described as living with schizophrenia and a history of substance abuse, was arrested hours after the killings.

He has since pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail as the case advances through the courts.

Nick Reiner’s legal situation has shifted dramatically since his arrest.

It was revealed last week that his siblings are no longer paying for his criminal defense as he faces two counts of murder.

Sources connected to his siblings, Romy and Jake Reiner, told TMZ there was no intention to retain another private attorney.

One source told the outlet bluntly, “Nick’s defense is Nick’s defense. They’re not involved.”

The publication previously reported that prominent defense attorney Alan Jackson was initially hired following the murders but later withdrew due to an undisclosed disagreement.

A public defender was appointed last month, and what once appeared temporary is now permanent.

Inside Nick Reiner’s Courtroom Appearance

Nick Reiner’s first photographed appearance in custody offered a haunting glimpse into his current state.

The 32-year-old appeared gaunt and hollow-eyed as he sat hunched over in brown prison clothing during the brief hearing on February 23.

He softly whispered “yes” when asked if he understood the proceedings. With his head shaved, Nick scanned the packed courtroom as though searching for a familiar face.

At one moment, an unidentified elderly woman waved at him, and he silently mouthed “hi” back to her and the man seated beside her.

The hearing marked Nick’s third court appearance and the first time Judge Theresa McGonigle allowed him to be photographed while in custody.

After the three-minute hearing concluded, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman addressed reporters and confirmed the severity of the case.

Hochman said, “The case is on track. We have provided the bulk of [the] discovery to defense counsel, and we are now waiting for the coroner’s report. That will be provided to the District Attorney’s Office, and we will ensure that it will be provided to defense counsel."

He added, “This case is a death penalty eligible case. Along those lines, we take the process in which we determine whether or not the death penalty should be sought extremely seriously. That goes through a very rigorous process.”

The attorney concluded, “We will be looking at all mitigating and aggravating circumstances, and we have invited defense counsel to present to us both in writing and in a pleading, any arguments they would like to make in consideration going forward or not going forward with the death penalty. So that is an ongoing process.”

Nick Reiner is scheduled to return to court on April 29. As prosecutors continue reviewing evidence and medical history, the chilling warnings given before everything went wrong now cast an even darker shadow over the tragedy surrounding one of Hollywood’s most famous families.
