In "Project Hail Mary," Gosling plays the role of Dr. Ryland Grace, a teacher-turned-astronaut who is sent to space to save humanity. Along the way, he encounters an alien named Rocky, brought to life by a practical puppet.

As Gosling told People, some scenes were quite difficult to shoot, since he was acting with a puppet. Fortunately, his two daughters, 11-year-old Esmeralda and 9-year-old Amada, were ready to help their dad. "My kids would come in and I had an earpiece in my ear and they would talk for Rocky, so I could talk to them as Rocky," the actor shared.

There were instances where Gosling was cracking up or was "so charmed" by the puppet. "It's actually my kids talking to me and helping me out," he said.

The Actor Takes Notes From His Kids

Even before filming began, Gosling's daughters were unknowingly helping their dad. As the actor told Extra TV, he was trying on items at home to figure out a look for his character when his daughter walked by and commented, "You look smarter in glasses."

Gosling listened to his daughter's observation, and since his character needed to look smart in the movie, he decided to wear the glasses. "It was a great note," the actor said.

As Gosling shared, his children have "seen many cuts" of the movie and have given him "many notes" about it.

The Actor's Daughters Helped With 'Barbie' Too

This isn't the first time Gosling's daughters helped him with a movie. They were also supportive when he took on the role of Ken in the 2023 movie "Barbie." Although, admittedly, the actor said his girls were confused as to why he would want to play Ken.

His daughters were particularly helpful while their father was rehearsing the choreography at home for the Academy Award-nominated song "I'm Just Ken." Gosling revealed that her daughters knew the moves better than he did, calling his performance a "team effort."

On the day of filming the dance scene, Esmeralda and Amada were on set to cheer on Gosling. "They came to set that day and were a huge sense of support and doing it with me off-camera," he shared.

Gosling shares Esmeralda and Amada with his long-time partner Eva Mendes. The two met while working on the set of the 2012 movie "The Place Beyond the Pines," where they played romantic partners raising a child.

According to Gosling, he never thought about children before he met Mendes, but in the course of filming the movie, he said, "We were pretending to be a family, and I didn't really want it to be pretend anymore."

The couple started dating in 2011, and they welcomed their first child in 2014. Mendes gave birth to their second daughter in 2016. The couple values their privacy, and they have also kept their children away from the public eye.

Despite being busy in Hollywood, Gosling keeps his family as his priority. "In my situation, Eva's the dream mother, and they're dream babies... I'm dreaming it all. So I feel so lucky," he once said.
