The show must go on for "Only Murders in the Building" despite the recent tragedy that befell Martin Short.
Katherine Short passed away last month; however, the painful event will not put a halt to the filming plans of the show. In the meantime, he has taken time away from the public to grieve the loss of his daughter, staying away from events and allegedly even his partner.
Martin Short has had his fairshare of ups and downs in his career and personal life, including the loss of his wife in 2010. His role on "Only Murders in the Building" brought a career win for him last year, a joy swiftly wiped away by his daughter's passing.
Martin Short's 'Only Murders In The Building' Goes On As Planned

The death of Short's daughter, Katherine, will not prompt a change in the agenda for filming the hit show. It has been confirmed that production will go on as initially scheduled amid the actor's recent family tragedy.
Currently, production is not ongoing, but this is unrelated to Katherine's death or its impact on her father; rather, it is due to location and logistics. The upcoming season is to be filmed in London and not the United States; hence, production will begin in a couple of months.
Production sources have told TMZ that, under normal circumstances, that is, if this season were to be shot in the U.S., then the cast and crew would have already been preparing to begin work.
They further confirmed that no production schedules have been altered following Short's daughter's tragic death. Katherine took her own life after struggling with mental health issues.
'Only Murders In The Building' Cast Absent From The 2026 Actors Awards.

The actor is still in mourning for his beloved daughter, who passed away on February 23, 2026, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Short did not grace the 2026 Actors Awards, which were held on March 1, with his presence despite being nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
His other castmates, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez, did not attend the event held at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles in solidarity with their friend as he continues to grieve the death of Katherine.
Short went home last year, winning the award for that same category, but Seth Rogen took home the win this year. The "Only Murders in the Building" cast was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, an award they won last year.
For 2026, however, the cast of "The Studio" took home the win. Since the show premiered in 2021, it has only won two Actor Awards amid its eleven nominations.
Katherine Short's Death Marks The Second In The Actor's Family

Short and his wife, Nancy Dolman, adopted Katherine and her brothers Oliver and Henry, whom they raised together during their three-decade-long marriage. Sadly, Nancy died in 2010 after a battle with ovarian cancer, leaving the actor heartbroken.
PEOPLE noted that the Shorts family was devastated by Katherine's death and asked that their privacy be respected. Their issued statement read, "It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short.
The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world."
The Los Angeles coroner confirmed the actor's only daughter's death by suicide after the L.A. Fire Department responded to a call from a Hollywood Hills home on the evening of February 23. She was 42 at the time of her passing.
The Actor's Late Daughter Wanted A Clean Slate

The Blast reported that before Katherine's death, she had made moves to legally forgo her father's last name because she wanted to be away from the spotlight as much as possible.
She petitioned to have her name changed from "Katherine Elizabeth Short" to "Katherine Elizabeth Hartley," two years after her mother's death.
"I am a psychiatric social worker. I am concerned about potential harassment from future patients resulting from my association with my father," Katherine explained, according to court documents. Short's fame and status as a Hollywood star were gathering attention she did not want attached to her as well.
Evidently, the late 42-year-old was rarely seen with her father at public events for this reason, and also due to the mental health battles she faced behind closed doors. Her close friend Rande Levine revealed that she struggled amid smiles, trying to hide her reality from the rest of the world.
Grief Is Reportedly Eating Martin Short Up

Katherine's passing has sent the iconic comedian into a spiral as he allegedly pushes everyone away while he mourns her death. Reportedly, Short was so heartbroken and would not accept consolation, even from his rumored girlfriend, Meryl Streep.
A source close to them claimed that the actor wants to be by himself and has been creating what-if scenarios in his mind stemming from the feeling that he failed his late wife. He blames himself for Katherine's death, claiming that he failed as a father and questioning what he could have done better.
"He's really beating himself up over her suicide and wondering what he could have done to have saved Katherine," the insider explained, adding that he has been "inconsolable."
The Blast, however, noted that despite everything, his friends are still showing support in the ways they can, as some of them were spotted at his home in Los Angeles.
