Rosie O’Donnell is once again making headlines after speaking out against the latest U.S. military action in Iran, and her comments are reigniting her decades-long feud with President Donald Trump. The comedian reacted publicly after U.S. and Israeli forces carried out airstrikes targeting Iran, with Trump later announcing that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed. Rosie O’Donnell didn’t hold back, accusing the president of contradicting his own campaign promises and calling for political consequences.

O’Donnell took to social media shortly after news of the strikes broke, suggesting Trump’s actions directly conflicted with statements he made during his 2024 campaign. “He lies only and always #impeachtrump,” wrote O’Donnell in the caption of a post that showed two quotes from Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

The first read, “If Kamala wins, only death and destruction await because she is the candidate of endless wars. I am the candidate of peace. I am peace.”

The second read, “I’m not going ot start a war, I’m going to stop wars.”

O’Donnell and Trump’s public conflict dates back to 2006, when the former "The View" co-host criticized him during a "Hot Topics" segment related to a controversy involving Miss USA winner Tara Conner.

“He annoys me on a multitude of levels. [He] left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair, had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America,” she said. “Donald, sit and spin, my friend. I don't enjoy him.”

Trump responded publicly, calling O’Donnell “a woman out of control,” and the back-and-forth only intensified from there.

More recently, following Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025, O’Donnell revealed that she had relocated overseas, explaining that she and her child, Clay, left the United States for Ireland amid growing concerns about the political climate. At the time, on TikTok, she shared that returning home would depend on whether conditions changed. She said they would consider coming back when “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America.”

Weeks later, the comedian elaborated during an appearance on "The Late Late Show," admitting she was still surprised that Trump continued to publicly reference their decades-long feud. "He was very angry to say the least, and he hasn’t let it go," she said of her jabs against him in 2006. "And he sort of uses me as a punchline whenever he feels the need."

When Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin visited the White House for St. Patrick’s Day, Trump even commented on her move abroad after a reporter asked Martin why he would allow O’Donnell to relocate to Ireland.

Trump said he "like[d]" the question before asking Martin whether he knew who she was. Martin brushed off the exchange, prompting Trump to joke that the Irish leader was “better off” not knowing.

Reflecting on the continued public remarks, O’Donnell added, "He’s been doing it for two decades, and I’m still not used to it every time he does.”

The tension escalated further in July 2025, when Trump announced on social media that he was considering taking action against her citizenship status. “She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” he wrote.

O’Donnell quickly fired back on Instagram, responding, "You want to revoke my citizenship? Go ahead and try, King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan. I’m not yours to silence. I never was."

While O’Donnell has been living abroad since then, she recently returned to the United States. The recent trip back was focused on visiting family rather than signaling any permanent move.

"I was recently home for two weeks, and I did not really tell anyone," she told Chris Cuomo on his new show, "SiriusXM’s Cuomo Mornings." "I just went to see my family. I wanted to see how hard it would be for me to get in and out of the country. I wanted to feel what it felt like. I wanted to hold my children again. And I hadn't been home in over a year."
