Shia LaBeouf’s Take On Epstein Scandal Sparks Immediate Backlash
By Kelly Coffey-Behrens on March 2, 2026 at 11:15 AM EST

Shia LaBeouf sat down for a lengthy and often chaotic interview with Andrew Callaghan for Channel 5, where he touched on everything from politics and the Jeffrey Epstein controversy to his own legal troubles and viral moments. The conversation dropped shortly after LaBeouf was arrested again in connection with his February 17 altercation in New Orleans. While Shia LaBeouf has never been shy about speaking his mind, his comments about the Epstein files and politics quickly sparked reactions online, especially given the timing of his latest legal issues.
Shia LaBeouf Dismisses Epstein Controversy During Interview

During the conversation, LaBeouf made it clear he has not been following the ongoing Epstein files saga, offering a blunt explanation for why the topic isn’t on his radar. “No, I mean, no, bro, I was chasing a-s on Mardi Gras. I wasn't paying no attention to Epstein files. No, this sh-t is beyond me, bro. I don't get into this sh-t,” he said.
He continued by contrasting what he described as “real life” with political discourse. “If you got no life, maybe you're just sitting by a pool all day," he added. "In the street, they don't give a f-ck about this stupid sh-t. See if you're sitting home all day, just like 'who got kidnapped?' Your life sucks. You're a normie. Oh, but if you're out here, nobody gives a f-ck about none of this sh-t.”
LaBeouf also recalled a past conversation with rapper Kendrick Lamar when discussing politics. “I remember asking Kendrick one time, like, bro, hey, hey, Trump or Kamala, he was like, you think I give a f-ck about this?" he recalled. "Like, he got real life."
Actor Insists He Has Nothing To Do With ‘Weird Files’

At another point, LaBeouf appeared eager to distance himself from any association with controversy tied to the Epstein investigation. “I ain’t in no weird files, bro. No, no, no, no weird files," the actor said. "All my sh-t's in the street, bro. I'm open-hearted."
He then went on to admit he "done f-cked up," but said at least people "know what he did and what he didn't do."
Beyond politics and Epstein commentary, the wide-ranging interview also included LaBeouf discussing his recent arrest, past grudges, including a viral rant about baseball legend Mike Piazza, and his views on personal accountability.
Fans React To Shia LaBeouf’s Epstein Comments

LaBeouf’s remarks about not paying attention to the Epstein files and politics quickly sparked debate online, with some viewers criticizing what they perceived as dismissive comments about people who follow current events.
One user wrote, “Only people in privileged situations can think like this.” Another added, “I like Shia, think he's a great actor. But calling people ‘normie’ because they pay attention to elected leaders is a bad take. It may not affect his life because he's worth 10's of millions. Trust me, it affects most of our lives that are ‘normies.’”
Some reactions were even more blunt, with one commenter writing, “People saying ‘I love Shia but…’ what the f-ck do you love about this dude? Between what he’s done to his past girlfriends, his trouble with the law and these interviews I am STRUGGLING to find something positive to say about him.”

The interview arrived just as LaBeouf was already dominating headlines following his Mardi Gras arrest in New Orleans.
Authorities previously alleged the actor became aggressive during an incident outside a Royal Street business, where he was accused of striking multiple people and using homophobic slurs. After being released from custody, LaBeouf was seen returning to Bourbon Street festivities, which fueled additional public scrutiny.
He was taken into custody again on Saturday and hit with an additional misdemeanor simple battery charge connected to the same February 17 incident, according to court records. LaBeouf voluntarily surrendered ahead of a scheduled bail hearing later that day, where he posted a $5,000 bond. He has since been released and remains out of custody as the case moves forward.
Shia LaBeouf’s Legal Troubles And Past Controversies Resurface

The recent arrest is not LaBeouf’s first brush with legal trouble, and his latest remarks have also drawn renewed attention to past allegations involving the actor.
LaBeouf was arrested in 2017 on suspicion of public drunkenness. During that incident, he made racist comments toward police officers, which later prompted backlash. He subsequently apologized, citing his struggles with addiction, and the public drunkenness allegations were later dropped.
The "Even Stevens" actor has also faced serious accusations in his personal life. In 2020, his former partner, British singer FKA Twigs, filed a lawsuit alleging he had choked her and knowingly transmitted a sexually transmitted disease. That case was ultimately settled out of court last year.
